Applications are due September 2 for ROI’s second cohort of Grant Writing Fellows. This fellowship helps Uplands communities and organizations secure grant funding from various local, regional, state, and federal sources. In this year-long program, fellows learn from experts how to effectively develop compelling grant applications, including gathering data, developing budgets, improving your message, finding funding opportunities, and much more.
Fellows selected for ROI’s second grant writing cohort will also receive: • $1,000 commitment stipend to be paid at graduation • Up to $1,000 in matching funds for no more than two successful grant applications Fellows selected for this program will learn how to navigate the proposal process from idea conception to grant submission and beyond. Fellows will also receive continuing professional development on a variety of related topics, connections to a network of peers, and information on available opportunities. Sessions will include a “spotlight” on a granting agency in or around Indiana, including the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), Indiana Arts Commission, and other funders. This past spring, ROI graduated its first cohort of Grant Writing Fellows. This inaugural cohort successfully secured $1.77 million in grants invested in the Uplands region. ![]() Ron Collier, CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union, headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, was chosen as CEO of the Year by the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions (NAFCU). Collier and other winners of NAFCU’s 2022 Annual Awards Competition will be honored during NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C. September 11-14. "Ron’s dedicated efforts are reflected in the continued success of Indiana Members Credit Union, demonstrating thoughtful leadership skills, as well as developing new ideas that are beneficial to our organization's growth," said Robert E. Martin, Board Chairman. “This award reflects his exemplary services on behalf of our members.” This year’s NAFCU Annual Awards Competition honored eight winners in total and was selected by a committee of credit union leaders. Nominees for CEO of the Year, Credit Union of the Year, Professional of the Year and Volunteer of the Year were judged in two categories: credit unions with assets of more than $250 million and those with assets of $250 million or less. Collier was a winner among credit unions with more than $250 million in assets. The Monroe County YMCA is hosting an Open House week to celebrate the grand opening of their new Mind Body Studio at the Southeast Y (2125 S. Highland Ave. Bloomington, IN 47401). The Y’s new Mind Body Studio will host a range of Mind Body classes that incorporate practices of yoga, Pilates, barre, and more. The new Mind Body Studio boasts newly updated flooring, yoga mats, wellness equipment, and a quieter, more private location within the Y.
From August 22-27, the community is welcome to visit the new space, meet group exercise instructors, and learn what the Y has to offer. Mr. Torchio joined Northwest Bank in 2018, most recently serving as Senior Executive Vice President, Retail Lending and Business Banking. Mr. Torchio brings more than 31 years of experience in the banking industry to his position as President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Northwest, he held senior leadership and executive committee positions at both large regional and community banks, including the former Charter One Bank, Bank One and Mellon Bank. At Northwest Bank, Mr. Torchio led the transformation and scaling of the residential lending and indirect lending groups, which generated significant fee income and balance sheet growth. Additionally, Mr. Torchio launched an initiative to further develop and expand the business banking and Small Business Administration (SBA) lending divisions. Mr. Torchio is a graduate of Fairmont State University where he earned degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science.
