The Southern Indiana Wedding Expo began as a small thought and has transformed into something better than we could have imagined. As wedding planners we already knew we wanted to help newlyweds near and far plan their dream wedding. But discovering what those dreams are and how to go about making them happen is a unique process we strive to facilitate by exposing all those seeking to get married to some of the best wedding vendors around and the resources they need to make those dreams a reality.

Gone are the days when going to a bridal show meant aimlessly walking around giving out your contact information and leaving with nothing but a bag of coupons you may or may not use. The Southern Indiana Wedding Expo offers an experience worth remembering so that you can leave confident in the success of your future wedding and refreshed after a day of fun. Couples from all over are invited to join us and be inspired!

Join us at Switchyard Park Pavilion on Sunday, March 12 from 1:00-4:00pm for a unique wedding expo experience. Register at

CDFI Friendly Bloomington (CFB), a financial services nonprofit supporting the Uplands region, has named a new Executive Director. Jane Kupersmith, a local business owner, formerly Assistant Director for Small Business Development for the City of Bloomington, will begin the role on February 27, 2023. Brian Payne, the organization’s inaugural Executive Director from 2019 to 2023, will enter a new position with the Department of Health and Human Services.

CDFI Friendly Bloomington was established as a public-private partnership in 2019 to attract funding from the $250 billion Community Development Financial Institution industry to the local marketplace. Community development financial institutions, or CDFIs, are specialized organizations that provide financial services in low-income communities and to people or organizations who lack access to financing. CDFI Friendly Bloomington provides technical assistance for organizations that seek nontraditional financing opportunities and works to connect potential borrowers with CDFI funders. To date, it has helped facilitate public art installations, affordable housing, and cohousing, a small business, a pandemic-relief loan fund, as well as a grant and loan program to help individuals and organizations install green infrastructure. In all, it has attracted $23 million in capital investment to the region.

Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington and the Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship have partnered to help students get a head start on college by offering the Indiana College Core in high school. The credential is a 30 credit hour general education core of college credit guaranteed to transfer between Indiana public colleges and universities.

“By providing students with early college experiences while in high school, we can provide students with an affordable way to get a head start on college-level coursework, as well as their transition to and success in the rigor of college-level courses,” said Angie Evans, Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship Principal. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Ivy Tech Bloomington in this new capacity and hope to see more of our students earning the Indiana College Core each year.”

Students take high school and Ivy Tech classes at the same time through dual credit or dual enrollment. Earning the core provides students the chance to Start As a Sophomore at Ivy Tech or other public colleges, having already completed the first year of college credits.

The Indiana Chamber announced their 2023 awardees of Best Places to Work in Indiana with local firm St. John Associates (SJA) included in this year’s list. The program highlights employers in the state that foster a desirable workplace culture. Recipients are selected based on anonymous employee feedback and employer reports.

SJA was one of 125 statewide businesses recognized, the only one based in Bloomington. This is the 31-year-old physician recruiting firm’s first appearance on the list, landing in the small business category.

President and CEO Alex St. John says that focusing on cultivating a positive employee-driven culture has always been a top priority for her. “At SJA we respect our team of professionals by offering benefits such as unlimited PTO, a 10% 401K contribution, eight-week parental leave, full health insurance and more.  We all work hard and reap the benefits of that success. Certainly, in the physician recruiting market we, without question, offer some of the best benefits available and are honored to be recognized with other leading businesses within the state.”
