2024 General Election
The 2024 General Election is on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. This year, there are many candidates running for local, state and federal office. This site is a nonpartisan resource guide for elected positions that represent all or parts of Monroe County. We encourage you to research the candidates by reading media reports, reviewing each candidate's campaign materials, and contacting candidates directly if you have questions. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 7. In-person early voting starts on Tuesday, October 8th. You can apply for an absentee now. The application to request a vote-by-mail ballot must be received not later than 11:59pm, 12 days before the election. Monroe County CouncilCandidates Trent Deckard, Cheryl Munson, and David Henry came through the Democratic primary for the three at-large county council seats. At this time, there are no Republican candidates running for an at-large county council seat, meaning that Deckard, Munson, and Henry are running uncontested. Monroe County CommissionerIncumbent Julie Thomas won the Democratic Primary for the County Commissioner District 2 seat and is uncontested in the general election. Jody Madeira came out on top for the Democratic nomination for County Commissioner District 3 and will now face Republican Joe Van Deventer. Click here for more information on the candidates.

U.S. House of Representatives District 9Incumbent Congresswoman Erin Houchin won the Republican Primary and will face-off against Dr. Tim Peck. Click here for more information on the candidates.

On the State Senate side, incumbent Democrat Shelli Yoder is running unopposed for District 40. Similarly, incumbent Republican Eric Koch is running unopposed for District 44.
House District 46 will see Kurtis Cummings (D) challenge incumbent Bob Heaton (R). In House District 60, Michelle Higgs will take on incumbent Peggy Mayfield (R). Incumbent Democrat Matt Pierce is running unopposed for House District 61. Finally, House District 62 will feature a contest between Democrat Thomas Horrocks and incumbent Republican Dave Hall. School Board
School board races in Indiana are non-partisan. For the Monroe County Community School Corporation School Board, Districts 2, 4, 5, & 6 are up for election.
In the Richland-Bean Blossom School District, Jimmie Durnil is running unopposed for re-election as one of two Bean Blossom Township members, Larry DeMoss is running unopposed for re-election as one of two Richland Township members, and Brad Tucker is running unopposed for re-election as the At-Large Member.
