Current US Representative Trey Hollingsworth announced earlier this year that he will not be running in the 2022 general election, meaning that this will be an exciting race with 3 Democratic and 9 Republican candidates competing for party nominations.
Last year, the state of Indiana underwent a redistricting process which has resulted in a significant change from last decade's voting boundaries. Candidates running for this position will serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and will cover counties such as: Brown, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Dubois, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland and Washington. Isak Asare (D)

After graduating from Indiana University in 2011 with a degree in political science and linguistics, Isak moved to England to complete his graduate studies at the University of Oxford and University College London. Much of Isak’s work has been at the intersection of technology, political leadership, and policy. He has advised national and local governments and other organizations on the strategic, cultural, and leadership opportunities from digital transformation and emerging technologies. Isak teaches courses on policy for emerging technologies and leads the cybersecurity and global policy program at Indiana University. His experience in policy and expertise in emerging technologies make him uniquely qualified to represent the 9th district in these new and changing times.

D. Liam Dorris (D)

D. Liam Dorris was born in Evansville, went to North High School, played some football and graduated in 1997 (Go Huskies!). He served four honorable years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, and volunteered to go to Iraq as a Army contractor. While in the Marines, he received an education in the STEM discipline of Metrology, the science of measurement, which is the field I still work in today.

Jim Baker (R)

Business owner and commercial real estate broker Jim Baker has filed to seek the Republican nomination for Congress for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District. His decades of experience in real estate have taken him to every corner of the 9th district. Throughout his career Jim has served in numerous national, state, and local leadership positions. He has served as the president and Realtor of the Year for the Indiana Commercial Board of Realtors and Southern Indiana Realtor Association and currently serves as VP on the Clark County Regional Airport Authority Board. Jim describes himself as a political outsider who will be able to bring fresh ideas, approaches, and new understanding to the dilemmas we face as a nation.

Stu Barnes-Israel (R)

Stu Barnes-Israel is a U.S. Army combat veteran and a fifth-generation Hoosier who was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. While completing his undergraduate degree at Butler University, Stu joined ROTC. Upon graduation in 2009, he began seven years of active-duty military service which began in Germany and eventually took Stu to Fort Huachuca, Arizona on the U.S. – Mexico border. In 2016, Stu completed his Army service and continued his education, ultimately earning his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018. After graduation, Stu used his military experience and business education to work with some of our nation’s largest businesses to grow and create American jobs.

J. Michael Davisson (R)

Currently representing the 73rd district in the Indiana House of Representatives and vying to represent Indiana’s 9th Congressional District in Washington, Davisson has proudly boasted the titles of father, husband, small business owner, sergeant first class, and elite, well decorated Army combat veteran. Davisson’s tenure of service to our country earned him the Combat Infantry Badge, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal five times, the Army Achievement Medal, the Order of the Saint Maurice, Mountain Warfare Badge, and the Pathfinder Badge. Fulfilling his father’s dream of owning and operating an independent pharmacy, J and his brothers began Good Living Pharmacy, a successful small business which he now manages as President and CEO.

Dan Heiwig (R)

Daniel Heiwig is a committed and proud Hoosier patriot who continues to serve in the U.S. Army for more than 20 years as both Infantry Officer and Enlisted Soldier. While completing college, Dan served in the Indiana Army National Guard and attended Vincennes University, IUPUC, and Ivy Tech in Columbus as an enlisted soldier. Dan Heiwig has an MBA from a Christian University in Oakland City, Indiana. In 2008 Dan Heiwig was accepted to Officer Candidate School at the Indiana Military Academy class 55-09. Dan chose Infantry for his military branch, became airborne qualified, and was trained by the greatest leadership organization at Ft. Benning. Over the past 20 years and now holding the rank of Major, Dan Heiwig has served with distinction in a diverse set of missions that required being specially selected and specially trained.

Erin Houchin (R)

Erin received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and holds a Master’s degree in Political Management from The George Washington University. She previously represented the 47th District in the State Senate since 2014, which included all of Crawford, Orange, Harrison, Perry and Washington counties, and the eastern half of Dubois County. D. Eric Schansberg (R)

Dr. Eric Schansberg has been a Professor of Economics at Indiana University Southeast since 1992, after earning his Ph.D. at Texas A&M. He is a prolific writer, with a book on public policy (Poor Policy: How Government Harms the Poor), dozens of academic journal articles, and hundreds of essays. His teaching and research interests include public policy, poverty, labor economics, K-12 education, and the role of government. Eric is also the President of the Board of Brandon’s House (a non-profit in New Albany that provides free, Masters-level counseling to teens and their families) and Hope Alive Initiatives (an African ministry that focuses on Christian discipleship and economic empowerment).

Mike Sodrel (R)

Mike Sodrel is a fourth-generation Hoosier, Indiana Army National Guard veteran, and local businessman. He is the CEO of Sodrel Truck Lines and The Free Enterprise System headquartered in Jeffersonville, IN, where he has employed hundreds of Hoosiers. Brian Tibbs (R)

Brian Tibbs served as Sr. pastor of Charlestown Independent Church from 1998-2019. Before serving as minister, Tibbs taught high school history and government. A 1992 graduate of Pensacola Christian College and 1988 graduate of Jeffersonville High School, he is a lifelong Hoosier.
