The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce is hosted Sen. Todd Young for the Dignitary Discussions Presented by Cook Medical and Indiana University on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025. The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce supports strong civic engagement for a healthy community and business climate. The Chamber provides nonpartisan information for civic engagement, including information on candidates, elected officials, and issues facing Bloomington and Monroe County. The Chamber does not endorse candidates for office at the local, state, or federal levels. The Chamber is an independent organization, separate from the Indiana Chamber and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which do make political endorsements. The Chamber hosts events featuring candidates and elected officials, attending or speaking, in an effort to inform members of local, state, and federal policies, and allows members the opportunity to share their political priorities with the candidates and elected officials. On Friday, January 10th, 2025, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's annual Legislative Preview at the Hilton Garden Inn. This event kicks off the year in advocacy by having state legislators share their priorities for the upcoming session and the Chamber present's it's Legislative Agenda for the year. Photos from the event are below! On Wednesday, October 9th, the BEDC and the Chamber hosted its Elect Connect The John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium. During this event, we heard from candidates on the ballot focusing on the races between District 3 County Commissioner - Joe VanDeventer (R) and Jody Madeira (D) - and District 62 Indiana State Representative - Dave Hall (R) (incumbent) and Thomas Horrocks (D). See the photos from the event below! On Tuesday, April 16th, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's annual Elect Connect event at Upland's Woodshop. The Chamber's Elect Connect event provides an opportunity to discuss important topics of interest to the business community and hear directly from candidates running for elected office. The Chamber is committed to connecting our members and the public with our elected leaders and the key issues facing our community. On Friday, January 12, 2024, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's annual Legislative Preview event at the Mill with Senators Eric Koch and Shelli Yoder, and House Representatives Bob Heaton and Peggy Mayfield. On Monday, December 11th, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's Federal Focus event featuring United States Senator, Mike Braun at Switchyard Park Pavilion. This event was presented by Indiana University and also sponsored by Cook Group, Comcast Business Class, German American Bank, Ivy Tech Community College, and Nature's Way. During this event, Chamber members and members of the community were able to hear mayoral candidates Don Griffin, Susan Sandberg, and Kerry Thomson discuss issues important to the business and economic development community. On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's Community Conversations: Working Better, Together at the Fountain Square Ballroom. During this event, Sheriff Ruben Marté, Dr. Allison Howland, Liz Grenant, Penny Githens, and Eric Spoonmore were part of a panel moderated by Margie Rice. This panel discussion brought perspectives on the role of elected officials and the business community to focus on strategies for achieving meaningful progress on the goals for the community.
