On Friday, June 13th, the Bloomington Women in Leadership group came together for our 2025 Engage service project supporting the incredible work being done at Pathways! Participants helped staff at Pathways complete much-needed deep-cleaning and organization projects, outdoor painting projects, outdoor landscaping and maintenance projects, and sound panel installation projects. See photos from the event below! Pathways empowers families to significantly improve their economic circumstances and break the cycle of poverty by providing a powerful combination of direct material assistance for the household, affordable & high-quality early learning for children ages 1-5 years old, and individualized economic mobility services that help caregivers increase wage-earning potential, facilitate emergency savings, and encourage investing in the future. Pathways’ Compass Early Learning Center currently supports 84 children and their families. They’ve welcomed us to help with meaningful hands-on projects around their campus—and they’ve also shared a wish list of much-needed supplies we can collect. Bloomington Women in Leadership ("BWIL") has four core pillars including Inspire, Engage, Elevate, and Empower. BWIL "Engage" events will partner with local non-profit organizations and give back to the community. These programs should focus on participants spending quality time engaging with and enhancing the community and learning about the partner organization who strives to improve the Bloomington community.
Bloomington Women in Leadership (BWIL), an affinity group of The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, is a professional women's group that empowers, inspires, elevates, and engages through mentorships, professional development, and community. BWIL events are open to Chamber and community members. BWIL supports professional women and their allies to build a meaningful network of women through intentional peer and mentoring relationships.

On Friday, May 9th, 2025, The Success School, the Chamber's Foundation, held it's Reality Store® at Batchelor Middle School. The Reality Store® is a simulation that helps junior high students appreciate the ‘realities’ of life and achieve a better understanding of personal finance. In the Reality Store® simulation, junior high students pretend they are a 28-year-old starting out in their life and career. Each school year, this program is held at four local middle schools, where close to 1000 students participate. Over 150 community members volunteered to run the tables at these events this year. Volunteering for a Reality Store® is a fun way to interact with students and teach them important lessons. See the photos from the event below! As a part of the Chamber's Foundation, The Success School acts as the connection between the business and the education communities. We serve students by introducing them to many different potential career options, providing them with opportunities to interact with professionals in different fields and helping them understand that graduating from high school is crucial for future success. We also serve the business community by offering meaningful volunteer opportunities for business professionals in our career learning programs which provide workforce development services for youth.
This year marked the second year for the Valor Awards, a distinguished ceremony brought to you by the Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington in partnership with the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony is dedicated to honoring the bravery and selflessness of our first responders. Set to spotlight these everyday heroes, the Valor Awards will recognized one individual from each sector for their exemplary service. The event, proudly presented by Old National Bank & Weddle Bros. Construction Companies, unfolded on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at the Monroe Convention Center. See photos from the event below! Nominations were solicited from Monroe County entities in five categories: law enforcement, fire, dispatch, emergency medical, and correctional center, with an outside selection committee tasked with reviewing submissions. The winners of each category will be announced during the awards presentation.
Nominees include (winners *):
The Exchange Club has a longstanding tradition of honoring law enforcement and firefighters. In collaboration with the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, donations from the event supported Back the Line Monroe County, a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization that offers support to Monroe County's first responders and their families when tragedy strikes. Back the Line offers immediate monetary and emotional support to the surviving families of a fallen or disabled Monroe County first responder. Back the Line actively supports first responders’ mental health and morale during the year by providing access to peer support, chaplain services, social workers, grief counseling, and incident debriefings. The Exchange Club's tradition of honoring law enforcement and firefighters stands as a cornerstone of its mission, celebrating the unwavering commitment and courage of those who ensure public safety and well-being. The annual recognition acts as a profound acknowledgment of the bravery, sacrifice, and service exhibited by these individuals. It underscores the community's appreciation and respect for their roles, thereby strengthening the bond between first responders and the communities they serve. Congratulations, Van Buren Township, on your new location! Their township now has room to grow for the future along with a Community Center. For more information, visit vanburentownship.org.
