 Every three years, more than 40 outstanding young harpists from around the world descend on Bloomington to compete in the USA International Harp Competition, with the 12th Competition taking place from June 29 through July 9, 2022.
Moya Wright, Executive Director, will take a look “Behind the Scenes” and talk about some of the preparations for this year’s International Harp Competition. She will also talk about the volunteer program, including the popular Host Families program where local residents volunteer to host an international contestant. Founded in 1989 by Susann McDonald, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Harp at the Jacobs School of Music, the USA International Harp Competition is recognized as one of most prestigious, and lucrative, solo harp competitions in the world. Participants will be competing for the gold, silver, bronze medals and cash prizes before a jury of distinguished international judges.

In this role, reporting to the board of directors, Ms. Quick-Cook will be responsible for all aspects of the organization including, but not limited to business execution, fund development, financial management, program impact, talent management, and strategic planning. Her first official day was March 21, 2022.
Ms. Quick-Cook joins BBBSSCI after spending the last five years with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana. She held various roles supporting and managing areas of increasing responsibility in fund development, continuous improvement and programming within the Kentuckiana service area of 10 counties. With nearly a decade of non-profit experience coupled with her background in legal services, Jennifer has successfully impacted the lives of hundreds of individuals, families, and children. Ms. Quick-Cook received her Bachelor’s degree in paralegal services from Sullivan University and her Master’s degree in social work from Spalding University. “We are very excited to welcome Jennifer to the agency and our community,” said Kelly Abel, Board President, BBBSSCI. “Jennifer comes to us with in-depth knowledge of how the agency operates, but also brings a new set of skills to help us grow and change the lives of more children in our community." Tickets available at www.spencertivoli.org So Cold the RiverA co-production between 1804 Productions and Pigasus Pictures, So Cold The River was written and directed by Paul Shoulberg and based on the book by bestselling author Michael Koryta. A Bloomington native, Koryta used West Baden and French Lick as the setting for his novel, and it came full circle when the movie version of So Cold the River was filmed on location entirely at West Baden Springs Hotel and the surrounding community. Cook Group, the parent company of West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Springs Hotel, also collaborated on the project when the movie was filmed in January and February of 2020.
This dark supernatural thriller follows an ex-documentary filmmaker, Erica Shaw. After a 2-year hiatus, The Combine Conference returns April 7-8 for an in-person event celebrating Midwest creativity, community, capital, culture, and code. The 2022 event will be held April 7-8, 2022, at the Mill, Bloomington’s center for coworking and entrepreneurship.
In addition to a ticketed conference featuring presenters on technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship trends, this year’s Combine will include a free public immersive drone light show on Friday. Individuals and families are encouraged to arrive early, grab a good viewing spot, and explore the Startup Showcase while awaiting the light show. “The Combine is back, and what better way to celebrate creativity, innovation, and technology than with 75 aerial drones,” said organizer Mike Trotzke. “Thanks to the support of our sponsors, we can invite everyone, whether they can make it to the conference or not, to enjoy the drone show. It’s a fully customized show, featuring artwork and animations unique to the Combine, Bloomington, and Indiana.”  Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus will welcome Bill Oliver, co-founder at Oliver Winery, as the keynote speaker for its 11th annual Cook Institute for Entrepreneurship luncheon on April 19 at 11:30 a.m. in Shreve Hall. Prior year’s events were postponed due to pandemic-related closures and gathering requirements.

In 2006, it became a 100% employee-owned company and in 2021, was purchased by NexPhase Capital, a New York-based private equity firm specializing in buying and scaling up small to medium sized businesses. Oliver holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, where he met his wife.  Marty Erschen With over 26 years of banking and financial services experience, Marty Erschen has been named senior vice president, Indiana Commercial market executive, for Northwest Bank. Mark Worthy, head of Commercial and Industrial Lending, made the announcement.
In his role, Erschen leads Northwest’s commercial business development throughout Indiana, including an experienced team of relationship managers. Passionate about community economic development, he is committed to connecting Northwest’s commercial clients with the financial tools, resources and guidance they need to run a successful business.
