On November 1, 2021, LIFEDesigns’ Board of Directors unanimously voted to combine LIFEDesigns, Inc. with Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI), taking effect December 1, 2021.
While both agencies are successful and financially sound, this is a strategic decision to take a proactive step to ensure the sustainability of both organizations well into the future. LIFEDesigns and DSI are strong agencies, providing high quality services that boast substantial capital and program influence in Indiana and are often the models for service innovation and quality within the industry. LIFEDesigns and DSI also have a decade long history of working together, sharing resources and best practice standards through the industry's trade association, INARF, and the Strategic Indiana Provider Network (SIPN). This partnership has resulted in the agency to becoming one of the largest non-profit organizations in Indiana helping those with disabilities. LIFEDesigns and DSI will remain in their respective local communities and continue to provide the high quality services the disabled population is accustomed to receiving. Families and caregivers have not seen and will not see any disruption in services from the partnership. Smithville received national recognition in December for its continuing community service to residents and for the national innovative installation of Smart Home Security products in 2021, according to Darby McCarty, Smithville Chairman and CEO. The awards were presented in December at the national Resideo Connect Conference in Orlando, Florida. The conference annually hosts the leading security, HVAC, and technology integrators from across the nation.
As Chris Dobson, Product Manager, explained: “The Community Service Award acknowledges our commitment to the communities we serve and our initiatives like the school supply drive, Touch a Truck events, and the Salvation Army Angel Tree program.” The Smithville Engaged Team organizes community events such as the Teachers Warehouse School Supply Drive and others. The Residential Installation of the Year Award given by Resideo to Smithville reflects Smithville’s capacity to fully demonstrate the high-tech Connected Home Lifestyle in a residential installation. The award-winning installation encompassed fiber connectivity, security monitoring, life safety monitoring, water leak monitoring, smart home control, and interactive services. The installation included a Lyric Smart Home Controller, 24 burglary sensors, five smoke detectors, two carbon monoxide detectors, two water leak sensors, smart lighting control, Total Connect service plan with automation, and Smithville symmetrical gigabit fiber broadband service.

First posted by Indiana Public Media on January 5, 2022 at https://indianapublicmedia.org/news/bloomington-brewing-company-changes-ownership-after-27-years.php Bloomington Brewing Company is changing hands for the first time since it opened 27 years ago.
Founders Jeff Mease and Lennie Busch announced Wednesday Amanda and Jarrod Franklin of Bloomington purchased BBC along with partners of Indianapolis brewery Four Day Ray. Mease says the sale doesn’t affect their other businesses such as Lennie’s or HIVE. “Lennie and I were never brewers; we came to this thing through more like a love of localism. So, it was time.” Mease and Busch built the brewery next to Lennie’s restaurant in the Crosstown II Shopping Center on E. 10th Street to help support their hospitality business. It was the first craft brewery to open in Southern Indiana. The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County (CFBMC) has awarded nine nonprofit organizations with Creating Community Grants. A total of $154,036 has been awarded as part of this funding initiative.
Following a year in which many federal, state, and other local funders were, by necessity, focused primarily on meeting basic needs, the Community Foundation was able to open the Creating Community competitive granting program in September with a focus on restoring and enhancing the overall livability of our community. Grants awarded through this program will foster our community’s vibrancy, quality of place, and livability through supporting and enhancing the amenities that make Monroe County an attractive place to call home. “We had an incredible response to this grant opportunity and welcomed proposals from many organizations that have not previously applied for a Community Foundation grant,” said President and CEO Tina Peterson. “Our grant committee was delighted to learn more about the amazing work of these dedicated organizations, and we are proud of the potential that the nine grants will have in creating a more inclusive, attractive, and thriving community for everyone to visit, live, work, and play.” Today The Mill, a nonprofit center for entrepreneurship and coworking, announced the launch of a second date for Crossroads Pitch Competition, its statewide competition for Indiana-based startups. Now in its fifth year, the flagship Crossroads event occurs in fall. Applications are open for the new spring event, with finals scheduled to take place in March.
See how Indiana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is gaining momentum at https://www.crossroadspitch.com/ “Indiana’s startup scene is hot right now,” said Andy Lehman, Head of Accelerator Programming at The Mill, “and fast access to capital is essential to startup growth. Founders can’t afford to wait a whole year for the next Crossroads. We’re adding a spring event to expand the window of opportunity and grow Indiana’s innovation economy.” The winner of Crossroads receives a prize package of cash and in-kind services valued at over $10,000, as well as priority consideration to pitch at Elevate Ventures’ prestigious Nexus Pitch Competition for the chance to win up to $80,000 more. Competitors also connect to the state’s startup ecosystem leaders by gaining exposure to Crossroads judges, a panel of over 30 representatives from state and regional investors, entrepreneurs, and business experts.
