Meet inspiring women+ from across the globe to around the corner and experience community and camaraderie at Women+ Build 2023, presented by Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County! During this annual volunteer opportunity and fundraiser, women+ from all walks of life come together to build homes with families and individuals in need of safe, sustainable and affordable housing in Monroe County.

Since 2000, the Monroe County Women+ Build community has built 33 homes and raised over $2.5 million, helping to house 85 individuals, including 40 children.

Join volunteers of all ages, abilities, and professions, to jointly raise the walls and critical funds for affordable homeownership in our community. The dates for this year’s Women+ Build event are September 6 – 23, 2023.

Become a builder or donate now at mcwomenbuild.org. Click here to download our FAQ flyer and the build schedule!
How // Women+ builders register for a team and commit to raising $300 before joining their team for a volunteer day on-site. All funds raised support the costs of building material for TWO homes to be built with two Habitat families.

On your build day, Habitat provides breakfast, snacks, lunch, a t-shirt, and all necessary tools and safety equipment as well as the opportunity to earn additional fundraising incentives as higher milestones are reached. You will be split into smaller groups, led by knowledgeable crew leaders who will show you the ropes while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment and developing and enhancing your construction skills.

Who // Since our first build in 2000, Women Build in Monroe County has been breaking barriers and biases to empower women in creating a more gender-equal world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive – starting with construction sites in our own backyards! In 2022, we aimed to further expand our commitment to inclusivity by adding the “+” to our name and ensuring all individuals feel truly welcome to build with us – now and year-round.

Our Women+ Build initiative does not exclude volunteers of any gender or gender identity, nor does it allow discrimination of any kind or require prior building experience. We welcome applicants, volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds for we wholeheartedly support self-expression and equity. You must be 18+ to build with us at this event.

Become a builder or donate now at mcwomenbuild.org.

Learn Before Your Build Day // While no experience is necessary to participate in Women+ Build, you can sharpen your skills by joining us any Saturday from now to September for onsite building sessions with our site supervisor, Sarah Woolford. You will engage with hands-on tasks such as insulation, windows and doors, siding, painting, baseboard trim, cabinets and countertops, and more.

Register for a training shift in advance through Civic Champs at bit.ly/HFHMC_CivicChamps. Just click Women+ Build Training. Please note, registering for a training shift does not register you for Women+ Build.
