WFIU/WTIU News will host a live debate with the three Democrats running for Bloomington mayor in the May primary: Kerry Thomson, Susan Sandberg, and Don Griffin. The 2023 Democratic Mayoral Primary Debate will air Thursday, April 13 at 8 p.m. on WFIU Public Radio and WTIU Public Television. Indiana Newsdesk anchor Joe Hren will moderate. A live stream of the debate will also be available at indianapublicmedia.org. Thomson is the executive director of Indiana University’s Center for Rural Engagement and the former CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County. Sandberg is the president of the Bloomington City Council and says she is campaigning on key policy differences with current Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton.
Griffin is the former deputy mayor under Hamilton. He is the president of the Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus and the owner of Griffin Realty. The public is invited to submit questions prior to the debate by e-mail at [email protected] or through WTIU’s or WFIU’s Facebook pages. Debate updates will be posted on Twitter with the hashtag #IPMDebate.
