United Way of Monroe County seeks contributions as holiday season approaches: Announces current donations nearing $650,000 and urges participation

As the holidays approach, United Way of Monroe County is asking local people to help lift up neighbors and build a stronger community by contributing to the Reimagine Our Future annual fundraising drive. As of December 3, donations are nearing $650,000, with all funds aimed at responding to local community needs this holiday season and in the year to come.

“Our community is so very generous and caring. We are grateful to all of those who have pledged their support. At the same time, we see that it’s tough still for too many people. We are asking for those who can find the means to give this season, please make your gift today,” said United Way of Monroe County Executive Director Efrat Feferman. “United Way partners are hard at work making the holiday season as special as possible for all of the individuals and communities they serve. We are ever grateful for all of the good people who comprise those many partners, as well.”

Funds raised will have a direct impact on local individuals and families – from providing healthy food and medical care to safe housing and child care. This past year saw so many families and children in deep loss and uncertainty. Because of community support, United Way responded quickly and efficiently providing funds where it was needed most.
Community members are encouraged to step up to help move the region through the challenging effects of the continuing global pandemic. High levels of poverty exist right here -- nearly 50% of residents teeter right above or fall below the poverty line. It is critical to address the harsh disparities that are the reality for so many.

United Way works to dissolve these disparities by bringing people together to create both short- and long-term solutions, support nonprofit partners, and develop targeted community programs.

United Way recognizes these current Champions who are helping Reimagine Our Future through their support:
  • IU Credit Union generously donated a total gift of $41,556 to help address the most critical needs in Monroe, Owen, and Greene counties, including a corporate match gift in the amount of $20,778.
  • BKD offered its employees an opportunity to make a difference this year, and they generously contributed $8,245 to lift up neighbors.
  • Great West Casualty Company found the time and compassion to raise and contribute $5,418 locally to support the work ahead.
  • Stone Belt employees, always generous during fund drive season, expressed their concern for our community by contributing $4,313 to Reimagine Our Future.

All gifts, no matter the amount, have an impact. For instance, a gift to United Way of just $2 a week can provide six meal’s worth of groceries to 50 homebound individuals every month.

Donations can be made online at monroeunitedway.org/givenow or by texting Reimagine2021 to 41444. Reimagine new possibilities for all!
