Think your chili is the best in town? Put your recipe to the test! The United Way Chilly Cook-Off is recruiting chefs – from novice and seasoned home cooks to professional chefs – to put their favorite recipe to the test and share their chili with the community. Showcase your skills while competing to make the best chili in town at the Chilly Cook-Off! Chef space is limited. Registration closes on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 or when all the chef spaces are filled. The United Way Chilly Cook-Off, a Freezefest event benefiting United Way of Monroe County, will be held on Saturday, January 21 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at The Mill (located at 642 N Madison St, across from Upland Brewing). All varieties of chili are welcome. A panel of judges will determine best overall, best vegetarian, most creative, and best professional. Attendees will determine the People’s Choice Award. Registration is free for contestant chefs and is limited to 24 entrants, so register today! Visit www.monroeunitedway.org/CookOff for registration forms, guidelines, and other information.
Are you more of a chili lover than a chili cook? Plan to join the festivities at The Mill in between your Freezefest activities to sample the best chili recipes in town and a scooped ice cream dessert provided by Chocolate Moose (vegan option available). Tickets are only $12 (free for kids 10 and under) and available at www.monroeunitedway.org/CookOff with all proceeds going to United Way. Up to 24 varieties of chili made by community cooks will be available to sample, including vegetarian options. Attendees are invited to cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. Think you can handle the hottest bowl of chili? You can enter the “Some Like it Hot” Chili Eating Contest at 12:30 p.m. during the Cook-Off. Join the fun! Freezefest is a community winter celebration taking place January 20-21, 2023 featuring world-class ice carvers and a full lineup of winter activities. Visit www.freezefest.com for more information and a full schedule and map of festival activities.
