![]() Today the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington announced that registrations are open for Lemonade Day Monroe County, a fun event in which kids open lemonade stands on the same day across the county, offering delicious variations on a classic summer treat. This year’s Lemonade Day will be held on Saturday, June 24. A national program, Lemonade Day has helped over a million young entrepreneurs open lemonade stands since its launch in 2007. Here in Monroe County, Lemonade Day is in its 12th year, led by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington. Cook Medical is 2023 Lemonade Day’s Presenting Sponsor, and The Mill offers operational support. The program offers a slate of activities leading up to the big day to help kids prepare and get them excited about designing their stands. Lemonade Day teaches the basics of entrepreneurship in lessons that cover business skills, financial literacy, teamwork, social and emotional skills, goal setting, and Responsibility. Mentors guide children through the lessons via the My Lemonade Day app and help them through the journey of planning, launching, and operating a business. The young participants receive an initial investment for supplies from sponsors. After the event, they pay their investors back, keep the rest of their profits, and are encouraged to spend some, save some, and share some. ![]() “The joy of this event is watching so many kids having fun, building confidence, and putting their own unique spin on a simple concept, all in a single day,” said Laura Blaker, Lemonade Day City Director at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington. “Our goal this year is to register 700 youth. We want to see lemonade stands pop up all across Monroe County!” Parents, mentors, teachers and youth leaders are encouraged to register their youth online at LemonadeDay.org/Monroe-County. They can also register their youth at various community events. The slate of events also includes Lemonade Day University, where kids will learn some tips and tricks for their stands (Saturday, June 3 at The Mill from 10am-1pm). Lemonade Day itself will be Saturday, June 24. After the event, The Mill is hosting the Pitch Competition & Celebration Carnival on Wednesday, July 19th. Young entrepreneurs will present their businesses to a live audience at the Pitch Competition from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by a Celebration Carnival from 6:30-7:30pm. Blaker noted that anyone and everyone can be involved in Lemonade Day. “Young entrepreneurs with lemonade stands need mentors, investors, business partners, great locations, and customers,” she said. “We also need sponsors and volunteers to make Lemonade Day a success. It’s incredibly fun and rewarding, and of course, refreshments will be available for sale!” Those interested in participating in the program can learn more at LemonadeDay.org/Monroe-County, or search Facebook and Instagram for @LemonadeDayMoCo.
