The Salvation Army will begin its annual Red Kettle Campaign on November 17 with their 15th annual Red Kettle Kick Off event. Due to the continued presence of COVID-19, the event will be held virtually instead of at the Convention Center. Each year, individuals and businesses form teams to compete on raising the most funds to get the Red Kettle Campaign started. Teams collect donations from family, friends and business associates in their online kettle. “Anyone wishing to help in this way can go to “salarmy.us/kko2021” and create their own team. Then all they do is send their team link to all their contacts and help The Salvation Army raise needed funds for Christmas and to keep their programs going in 2022,” said Captain Gordon Hoag, local Salvation Army Administrator. The team that raises the most will be recognized with a traveling trophy with their team name engraved on it. The Salvation Army’s iconic bell ringers will begin at a few businesses on November 18 with 12 locations eventually starting by Black Friday, November 26. The Salvation Army is looking to fill the almost 2,900 hours available of bell ringing this year. Volunteer bell ringers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises the funds that sustain the assistance given all year long. Anyone can visit registertoring.com to sign up online for their favorite location and appropriate day and time.
Captain Hoag also stated, “We expect to help around 400-450 struggling families during the Holidays with food and presents for children. In uncertain times these families know they can turn to The Salvation Army for much needed help”. The Red Kettle campaign is The Salvation Army’s biggest fundraiser of the year and assures the local unit of maintaining its holiday assistance programs as well as funding social service programs for 2022. The Salvation Army has served Monroe County since 1907 providing support and services to low income individuals and families. Their mission is to minister to the whole person – body, mind and soul.
