Local letter carriers will again collect food for Hoosier Hills Food Bank during this Saturday’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive. On May 13, the National Association of Letter Carriers will sponsor the nation-wide food collection effort, hosted in Monroe County by NALC Branch 828 and benefiting the hunger relief programs of Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Branch 828 also supports the food drive in other local counties.
Postal customers are encouraged to leave a bag or box of food by their mailbox on Saturday and it will be collected by their letter carrier and delivered to HHFB. Most needed items are canned meats and proteins, canned vegetables and canned fruit but any non-perishable items are welcome. Glass jars and perishable or expired food should not be donated. Last year’s food drive raised over 40,000 pounds of food for HHFB and organizers hope to match or exceed that total this year. Stamp Out Hunger is the food bank’s largest food drive each year.
