At a Special Meeting February 3, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., the Monroe County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees approved a 3-year contract for Dr. Jeff Hauswald as Superintendent. Dr. Hauswald begins his duties at Monroe County Community School Corporation July 1, 2021.

Board President Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer considers Dr. Hauswald the best fit for
MCCSC. “We are so honored to have Dr. Hauswald as the next leader of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. His career experiences as a classroom teacher, high school administrator, and elementary school principal, combined with over 10 years as an urban school superintendent gives him invaluable insight and the experience to lead our school district. Being a sound fiscal manager with taxpayers’ dollars and experienced in understanding school finance, he will serve the community well as we approach the next referendum. He is student-centered with an equity focus. Dr. Hauswald builds relationships through communication and engages stakeholders to create community trust. He is a visionary that will work towards solutions and does not hesitate to try new ideas if they will contribute for a better and more equitable learning
environment for our students. His energy is infectious and he will definitely be a “visible leader” in our schools, community, and with state legislators. His work as president of the Indiana Urban Schools Association is commendable. We look forward to Dr. Hauswald’s leadership as we continue to “Engage, Empower, and Educate” all students in the Monroe County Community School Corporation.”

Ron Barnes, BWP & Associates (Educational Leadership Search Consultants, stated “Dr. Hauswald is an excellent choice for Superintendent of MCCSC. Last fall, virtual focus groups and surveys were completed by the community to help the Board develop a list of characteristics and qualifications that the Board used in selecting their new
superintendent from a strong pool of candidates. Over one thousand stakeholders took part in this process to create a Leadership Profile. The School Board worked very hard throughout the selection and interview process to find that “best fit”. With qualifications that nearly mirror those of the leadership profile, Dr. Hauswald is a proven leader with
the experience, passion, and skills to lead MCCSC. The fruits of their efforts will pay off as Dr. Hauswald works with them to provide the optimal learning opportunities for all kids.”

The new superintendent has been impressed with the Monroe County Board of School Trustees.

“The Board has displayed a strong commitment to the students, staff, and community of MCCSC. The Board members’ concern for equity, engagement, and continuing the strong tradition of academic excellence at MCCSC only increased my desire to become a part of the MCCSC team,” Dr. Hauswald said. “I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to serve this community.”

For the past 10 years, since July 1, 2010, Dr. Hauswald has served as Superintendent at the Kokomo School Corporation in Kokomo, IN. Dr. Hauswald currently serves as President of the Indiana Urban Schools Association.

Prior to serving as Superintendent at Kokomo School Corporation, Dr. Hauswald served administratively as Assistant Superintendent at South Harrison Community School Corporation in Corydon, IN, Elementary Principal at South Central Elementary School in Elizabeth, IN, and Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at South Central Jr./Sr. High School in Elizabeth, IN. From 1997 to 2002, Dr. Hauswald taught secondary mathematics at South Harrison Community School Corporation.

Dr. Hauswald will be spending time in the MCCSC community prior to his official start date of July 1, 2021.

“I am looking forward to meeting with students, parents, staff, and other members of the MCCSC community,” Dr. Hauswald noted. “I am eager to hear from constituents and to gain additional insights into the district. Personally, my wife, Cassie, and I are eager to make Monroe County our new home. Cassie’s work for The Nature Conservancy in freshwater aquatics, our combined love for the natural areas of southern Indiana, and our desire to live in an exciting and progressive community makes Monroe County a perfect fit for us.”
