Bloomington area nonprofits, an exciting new program has been made available to tax-exempt entities through the federal Inflation Reduction Act. Nonprofits may now apply to receive Direct Pay tax credits through the IRS for investments made into renewable energy projects, including EV purchases, solar and wind energy installations, and EV charging stations. This is a fantastic opportunity to receive financial reimbursements when installing and acquiring renewable energy systems and leverage other funding opportunities. For example, nonprofits who received a Solar, Energy Efficiency, and Lighting (SEEL) grant from the City of Bloomington in 2023 and beyond to purchase solar installations are eligible for Direct Pay Reimbursements. To learn more about how to apply for a SEEL grant visit https://bloomington.in.gov/sustainability/seel
For those interested in learning more about the Direct Pay program, please contact Jonas Chang at the City of Bloomington’s Controller’s Office via email at [email protected] so that we may gauge interest and needs when planning these sessions. In the meantime, the Local Progress Impact Lab will host a free Direct Pay informational webinar, titled “Cash for Communities: Leveraging Historic Federal Funds for Racial, Economic, and Climate Justice” on May 9 at 1pm ET.
