The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department's two outdoor pools, Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool, open for the 2021 season this weekend.

Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool did not open in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bryan Park Pool, located at 1020 S. Woodlawn Ave., is open May 29 through Sept. 6. Operating hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily, with abbreviated hours beginning Aug. 4 when the Monroe County school system is back in session.

Mills Pool, located at 1100 W. 14th St., is open May 29 through Aug. 3. Operating hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily.
Admission fees for both pools are $5 per person (youth and adults). Children ages 3 years and younger are admitted free.

Pool staff remain committed to the health and safety of fellow employees and pool patrons. Staff will continue to wear face coverings, and will clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces at the admission counter and concession stand, as well as in the bathhouse. Staff will also periodically wipe down chaise lounges on the pool deck. The use of face coverings and physical distancing by pool patrons is recommended.

Pool patrons who are frequent visitors may purchase a $50 season pass that allows unlimited admission to Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool for one individual during the summer 2021 season. An Economy Punch Pass, good for 20 total admissions by the same or different people, is $85. Economy Punch Passes and Season Passes may be purchased at Bryan Park Pool with cash, check or credit card throughout the season.

New in 2021, the lap lane at Bryan Park Pool is open every day exclusively for use by people with disabilities from 11 a.m. until noon. The lap lane is open daily for use by lap swimmers only from noon until 7 p.m.

Bloomington Parks and Recreation aquatics staff will also host three, two-week, Monday through Thursday swim lesson sessions, and one, eight-week Saturday swim lesson session. Swim lessons are available for all ages and skill levels, from Guardian and Toddler to Level V for intermediate swimmers. For more information about swim lesson sessions and registration deadlines, visit bloomington.in.gov/parks/pools. Swim lesson registration fee is $60 for Bloomington residents and $70 for out-of-city residents. For details about swim lesson levels, dates and times, visit bloomington.in.gov/parks/pools and click the grey "Bryan Park Pool" box.

Any individual or family residing inside Bloomington city limits may request a waiver of pool admission fees. Fee waivers are available to those city residents whose annual income meets the Federal Office of Management and Budget's guidelines of 150% of poverty level.

Fee waiver applications must be made in person at the Bloomington Parks and Recreation office inside City Hall during regular office hours of 8 a.m. through 5 p.m.
Fee waiver application requirements:
  • A $5 application fee, due at the time the application is submitted.
  • Proof of income for each adult income earner in the household (e.g. 2020 tax return, current month's pay stubs, or assistance program statements that show current benefit amounts).
  • NOTARIZED citizen/qualified alien status affidavit (form is available at bloomington.in.gov/parks/registration).
  • Proof of city residency (e.g. current water, electric, cable or internet bill; current lease or mortgage statement; verification from a residential community such as the Bloomington Housing Authority showing city residency.

Applicants are notified within two weeks of the status of the pool admission fee waiver application.

Detailed information about the required documentation for fee waiver applications, and application forms, may be downloaded from the Bloomington Parks and Recreation website at bloomington.in.gov/parks/registration. Paper copies of the application form and affidavit may also be picked up at the Bloomington Parks and Recreation office at 401 N. Morton St. Suite 250 inside City Hall.
