City Clerk Nicole Bolden Invites Applications for Vacant Positions on the Bloomington Arts Commission
The City of Bloomington Office of the City Clerk is accepting applications to fill vacant positions on the Bloomington Arts Commission.
The Bloomington Arts Commission’s goal is to provide a means for the City of Bloomington to stimulate and promote community appreciation for and participation in the arts. The commission gathers and disseminates information; promotes practical initiatives; and measures, monitors, and reports on our community's progress toward sustainability.
The Bloomington Arts Commission recognizes that the arts are an important part of the culture and economy of the community, and that the City has a responsibility to foster an environment conducive to the community's participation in the arts. The conservation and development of the city's artistic resources are essential to the social, educational, and economic growth of the city. Artists, works of art, and artistic institutions contribute to the quality of life and the general welfare of the citizens of Bloomington.
The Bloomington Arts Commission will consist of eleven members. Six of the members shall be appointed by the mayor and five shall be appointed by the common council. All members of the commission shall have a demonstrated commitment to the arts. To the extent possible, priority shall be given first to ensure a broad representation of professional artists from the disciplines of the visual, performing, and literary arts and then to arts administrators and arts consumers and to representatives from the education and business communities. Appointees shall have been voters of the city for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment and be at least 18 years of age.
