Citizens’ Redistricting Advisory Commission Invites Public to Submit New City Council District Suggestions

​The City of Bloomington Citizens’ Redistricting Advisory Commission held its first meeting on Monday, July 11th to begin developing recommendations for new district boundaries that divide the city into six council districts. The Commission’s next two meetings will be held at City Hall on July 25th at 7:30 pm and August 9th at 9:30 am. All meetings of the Commission are free and open to the public.
 
The Commission now invites the public to submit redistricting suggestions for the Commission’s consideration. Any member of the public wishing to submit suggested council district boundaries should do so before the Commission’s August 9th meeting. Submissions may be sent to [email protected].
 
Acceptable forms of submissions include, but are not limited to:
·         Maps depicting proposed council districts (PDF, image file, physical copy, etc.)
·         List or table of districts and the precincts contained in each district (Excel file, Word file, text file, etc.)
* For any form of submission, it should be clear what precincts are contained in each district.
A webpage, https://bloomington.in.gov/council/redistricting, has been established to house information, and resources meant to aid both the Commission and public in creating redistricting proposals. This webpage contains the Commission’s meeting calendar and meeting materials, links to two different interactive mapping tools, and a link to the city’s B-Clear data portal, which includes static maps, data files, and a district calculator spreadsheet.
