WTIU Public Television is hosting a free, virtual conference to explore, explain, and navigate some of the issues of growing older. The fifth annual WTIU Conference on Aging will be held online every Saturday at 10 a.m. from October 1 to November 19.
WTIU is pulling together area experts and resources to help participants find the answers to many questions associated with getting older. Attendees will learn what to ask, who to ask, and how to make wise decisions now that keep their options open as they age. The conference will include the following eight sessions: Medicare 101 (October 1); Thriving in Retirement: Reimagining Your Sense of Identity Through Life’s Transitions (October 8); Funeral Planning: Exploring Options (October 15); Medicaid and Protecting Assets (October 22); Estate Planning: Strategies for Passing Along Your Assets (October 29); What You Need to Know About Social Security (November 5); Planning for the Future of a Special Needs Adult Child (November 12); and Gathering Family Stories and Telling Your Own, Part 2 (November 19). Each session will include a live chat feature so participants can ask experts questions.

Originally launched on September 27, 2013, Indiana Newsdesk was created to provide south-central Indiana with its own local and regional TV news program. “We developed Indiana Newsdesk because we saw a need in our communities for more in-depth reporting and sense-making stories. Indiana Newsdesk highlights the week’s top stories, encourages conversations, identifies problems, and often proposes solutions,” said Sara Wittmeyer, WFIU-WTIU News Bureau Chief. Ten seasons later, Indiana Newsdesk remains the only TV news program in south-central Indiana. Hosted by Joe Hren, Indiana Newsdesk’s coverage has expanded over the years to help better serve the residents of south-central Indiana and around the state. Books unite us. They reach across boundaries and build connections between readers. Censorship, on the other hand, divides us and creates barriers. One of our most important goals here at the Library is to provide free and equitable access to information and resources. For nearly 40 years, the American Library Association and other organizations who are committed to preserving the tenet of intellectual freedom have promoted Banned Books Week in late September.
