The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce Success School is proud to announce the recipients of the 21st Annual Educator of the Year Awards.

For over two decades now, The Chamber’s Success School has championed excellence in education with the annual awards ceremony, which recognizes the best teachers and programs in accredited schools across Monroe County. This year eight educators, one educational program, and one lifetime achievement recipient will be honored in a community celebration at the 21st Annual Educator of the Year Awards to be held on the evening of Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington’s Shreve Hall. The program will feature student-led entertainment with a performance from the Tri-North Jazz Band. Presenting sponsors, Cook Group and Solution Tree, will also join the Chamber in presenting our honorees with their awards.

Awardees are selected from a pool of nominees from across Monroe County by a committee composed of leaders from the public sector, business community, and education. The awardees for 2022 are as follows.

The Outstanding Educator Awards recognize outstanding service and dedication to the field of education, fellow educators, and Monroe County youth. Bloomington-based company Solution Tree is donating $500 to the school of each Outstanding Educator. In addition, Solution Tree will pay all expenses for each awardee to attend a Solution Tree Institute or any of their two-day workshops. Congratulations to our eight outstanding educators:

  • Danielle Butler, Kindergarten Teacher at Edgewood Primary School
  • Angela Cannon, Media Specialist at Bloomington High School North
  • Amber Harrison, Pre-School Lead at Edgewood Early Childhood Center
  • Choonhyun E. Jeon, ELL, Cultural Competency & Diversity Coordinator at MCCSC
  • Caitlin Leichter, STEAM Coach at Edgewood Intermediate School
  • Michelle Qualley, Special Education and Math Teacher at Jackson Creek Middle School
  • Meighan Scott, Ready School Coach at Edgewood Junior High School
  • Meg Whittaker, Media Specialist at Tri-North Middle School

The Leading Light Award is for an educational program that demonstrates outstanding service and dedication with innovative or exemplary programs that enhance our education community. This year’s awardee is:

  • EdgeMedia at Edgewood Junior High School

The Lifetime Achievement Award is for one individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of outstanding commitment to education. RCV Roofing is proud to offer the Lifetime Achievement winner a complimentary 6” gutter replacement for their home. This includes removal and disposal of old gutters and up to 250’ of new gutterwork, including accessories. This year’s lifetime achievement awardee is:

  • Cathy Hastings, 8th grade Science Teacher at Edgewood Junior High

The Chamber wishes to congratulate all of this year’s award winners.

“To our teachers, “thank you” alone is not enough,” said Chamber President & CEO, Eric Spoonmore. “We recognize that through unprecedented challenges, your undeterred dedication to your students has called upon all your professional and personal resources. We look forward to celebrating each of you for the immense and positive impact you have made on our community.”
