Introducing 2021 Women Excel Bloomington Honoree, Amber Skoby

"Amber Skoby has become a shining star in the world of affordable housing and providing housing for those who might not have it otherwise," said nominator, Kevin Cade.

As the Director of the Bloomington Housing Authority, she has become familiar to those in her field, on a Local, State, and National level. She not only manages public housing and a rental voucher program that serves 1500+ families in the City of Bloomington, but she represents BHA on the Mayor’s task force for Affordable Housing, coordinates other non-profits who meet monthly to share ideas, strategies, and resources, and serves and meets regularly on the NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials) Board. She carries the banner of affordable housing clear to the national level.

In her fourth year as Executive Director of the Bloomington Housing Authority, Amber Skoby has consistently performed and led her team with excellence and distinction. "She is a visionary leader; proven by her forward-looking and forward-thinking leadership as she is constantly in search of and identifying new opportunities on national and statewide levels in order to promote affordable housing. Amber is completely knowledgeable of the needs and trends of the industry and the local community," said nominator, William Hosea.

Amber is an excellent communicator with exceptional listening skills. Maintaining extensive communication with the BHA Board of Commissioners is a keynote characteristic of Amber’s work ethic. She has the ability to provide pertinent information from a macro level view and when necessary, provide the supporting detailed information. Amber makes herself accessible to the board to answer questions and discuss any concerns. As a well-respected member of the Bloomington housing community, Amber is consistently invited to speak at various events on different occasions and always represents the BHA with excellence.

Bloomington is particularly blessed to have the gifts and graces of Amber Skoby directing the efforts to make housing and life opportunities available to those who most need it in this community.
