UPDATE: April Hennessey (MCCSC 2), Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer (MCCSC 4), Keith Klein (MCCSC 5), Jacinda Townsend Gides (MCCSC 6), Larry DeMoss (RBB Richland), Jimmie Durnil (RBB Bean Blossom) and Bradley Tucker (RBB At Large) have prevailed in the Nov. 3 general election.

This page provides information about candidates for trustees of the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) and the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation (R-BB).

​These are nonpartisan races.

MCCSC Trustee Candidates

The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is overseen by a 7-member board of trustees. This year, four seats are up for election in Districts 2, 4, 5 and 6. Only the incumbent is running in District 5, but all other seats are contested. Click here for a map of MCCSC board districts.

MCCSC includes 14 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools.

Trustees serve four-year terms and are paid $2,000 annually plus $112 for each regular meeting, among other compensation.

MCCSC District 2

District 2 covers portions of southwest Monroe County, including parts of Van Buren and Perry townships.

April Hennessey is a digital learning specialist for GP Strategies Corp., a corporation that provides learning strategies to organizations worldwide. Previously she was an English teacher at Bloomington High North School. She served on both building and district level Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committees and served as a faculty sponsor for a student club.

Sue Wanzer

Sue Wanzer was first elected to the MCCSC board in 2001 and currently is the board's vice president. She serves on the Bloomington Housing Authority board and previously was deputy city clerk for the City of Bloomington, associate director of residence life at Indiana University, and project manager at Strategic Development Group.

District 4 covers portions of Perry Township in south-central Monroe County.

Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer

Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer has served as MCCSC's District 4 trustee since 2017 and currently is the board's president. She is also co-founder and president of the Indiana Coalition for Public Education, a statewide bipartisan advocacy group.

MCCSC District 5

District 5 covers portions of Perry Township in the central part of Monroe County.

Keith Klein

Picture
Keith Klein has served as District 5's trustee since 2009 and is uncontested in the Nov. 3 election. He is adjunct faculty in communications at Ivy Tech Bloomington, where he formerly chaired the communications department. He previously worked in public relations for Cook Group Inc. and was program director at WTIU. He currently does news and on-air work at WGCL in Bloomington.

District 6 covers portions of Bloomington Township in central and east-central Monroe County.

Philip N. Eskew Jr. 

Picture
Philip N. Eskew Jr. is a former Indiana University trustee and retired physician, having served as director of ob/gyn residency at St. Vincent Hospital. He served on the IU Board of Trustees from 2006-2018. He was president of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and former chair of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Foundation board.

Jacinda Townsend Gides

Picture
Jacinda Townsend Gides is the incumbent District 6 representative. She was appointed in January 2020 by a vote of the MCCSC board to replace Lois Sabo-Skelton, who resigned in late 2019. She is a novelist and was the Appalachian Writer in Residence at Berea College for the spring 2020 semester. Her novel "Saint Monkey" won the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize and James Fenimore Cooper Prize for historical fiction.

R-BB Trustee Candidates

The Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation is overseen by a five-member board of elected trustees. The system serves about 3,000 students in Richland and Bean Blossom townships in northwestern Monroe County, including the towns of Ellettsville and Stinesville. This year, three seats are on the Nov. 3 ballot. There is only one candidate running for each seat.

Larry DeMoss (Richland District)

Larry DeMoss is a retired English teacher and former chair of the English Department at Edgewood High School. He retired in the spring of 2020 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce's Success School.
