Sarah Perfetti, Real Estate Broker of Perfetti Realty, has been running the day-to-day operations of Perfetti Realty since 2020. She joined forces with her mom, Sheree Perfetti, the owner, and broker of the business, in 2019. Their brick-and-mortar was then purchased in 2021. Perfetti Realty is a women-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and Indigenous-owned Chamber member business.

Sarah has a Master in Public Affairs in nonprofit management from Indiana University, a B.A. from Florida International University, and is a life-long competitive athlete. Born in Lowell, Indiana she became a swimmer in first grade learning the values of goal setting, hard work, and team building. She co-founded the nonprofit organization, Bloomington PRIDE in 2013 where she served as Executive Director for four years and then co-founded a women’s empowerment organization, Be Golden in 2017 which she still co-leads with her wife in Bloomington, IN. With her career of volunteerism and service, Sarah loves to help people and serve each person’s unique needs allowing them to achieve their goals. She is a member of the Bloomington Board of Realtors, Greater Northwest Indiana Realtors Association, the Indiana Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. In her free time Sarah loves to explore hiking trails with her wife and dogs, instructs indoor cycling and rowing, raises backyard chickens, loves to cook, occasionally swims competitively, and is a board member for the Indiana University LGBTQ+ Alumni Association.

Question & Answers:

What motivated you to start your own business? How did you develop the skills to start your own business?
My mom, Sheree Perfetti, is the broker owner of our business. She opened the main office located in Northwest Indiana. I joined forces with her in 2019 and have been doing the day-to-day operations for our branch office in Bloomington since joining the Bloomington Board of Realtors in 2020. Continuing the legacy of our company that my mom established motivated me to get my licensee. The academic scholarship I learned from grad school combined with the practical skills of building a grassroots nonprofit organization has provided me with the skills to enthusiastically run the branch office.

What inspires your work and what sets you apart from everyone else?
I get the inspiration for my work from the people I serve, especially first-time home buyers and folks going through personal hardships. Serving as their cheerleader throughout the real estate transaction and helping them better their lives bring me so much joy. What sets me apart from other brokers in the industry is the amount of care, respect, honesty, and integrity that I bring to the work I do. My nonprofit background and commitment to service makes me different than other friends in the industry.

What makes your business stand out from other businesses in Bloomington?
My mom and I have established and designed our Bloomington branch office to feel like a cozy home; it doesn’t feel like a typical real estate office. We want people to feel cared for from the moment they meet us and our relationship with clients doesn’t end at the closing table. Instead, we remain a valuable part in our clients’ lives like assisting with contractors for home improvements, inviting them to client appreciation events, and checking in on them, and much more.

What has been your biggest success to date?
The qualitative successes are the ones at the top of my list such as helping a first-time home buyer go from renting with a high monthly fee and paying their landlord’s mortgage to owning a home with a smaller monthly payment and feeling secure with their future. Home ownership doesn’t just build wealth and equity for a person, it also provides emotional comfort and security.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Working with buyers in a seller’s market has been my biggest challenge. It’s an emotional process for my buyers when our offers get beat and we speed from one showing to the next.

What are your plans for the future of your business?
My short-term plan is to hire more brokers. It’s a busy market and I need help!
