For nearly three decades, Wes Lasher has been telling stories through a lens at The Production House, a Bloomington-based video production company he founded in 1996. This year marks its 30th anniversary of operation; a milestone that speaks to both longevity and adaptability in an industry established by constant change. From corporate and training videos to event coverage and nonprofit storytelling, The Production House has remained a secure creative partner for organizations that prioritize authenticity, clarity, and purpose. Wes chose entrepreneurship out of necessity and creative independence. At the time, Bloomington offered very few traditional career paths for video production, and developing his own business allowed him to do meaningful and creative work on his own terms. With a double major in telecommunications and theater, Wes blends technical skill with storytelling and collaboration; an approach that still defines his work today. Rather than pursuing volume, he prioritizes long-term relationships with a smaller group of clients, building trust through consistency and mutual respect. Outside the studio, Wes’s love for film, pop culture, gaming, travel, and English football continues to fuel his curiosity and creativity. When Wes thinks about legacy, it’s not about size or recognition, but about being remembered as an honest, community-minded someone who delivers high-quality work at reasonable costs. His advice for future entrepreneurs is practical but hard-earned: learn business and accounting basics, understand taxes, surround yourself with smarter people than you, and don’t expect immediate income, build financial padding first. For Wes, entrepreneurship is about freedom and flexibility, even if it also means having many “bosses” in the form of clients. The lasting success of The Production House demonstrates a simple truth: strong relationships, honest work, and adaptability never go out of style.
Community has always been primary to Wes’s journey, both personally and professionally. He is especially proud of his nonprofit collaborations, where video has the power to raise awareness, inspire donors, and create real emotional impact. Guided by the mantra: “under-promise and over-deliver;” and a simple personal rule to not be a jerk. Wes has built a reputation rooted in fairness, reliability, and respect The defining principle of The Production House is stewardship. Wes is always intentional about being a good steward of his clients’ money, focusing on efficiency, transparency, and avoiding unnecessary costs for the customer. He avoids aggressive sales tactics and alternatively works best with clients who are genuinely delighted to share their stories. That same intentionality has guided him through many major industry changes, from physically cutting audio tape to fully digital editing, VHS and DVD distribution to online streaming, and standard-definition video to 4K production. Throughout all of it, Wes has been ready to adapt, while additionally stepping away from trends that may not align with his values.
