This page provides information about the candidates who are running for the Monroe County Council on General Election Day, November 8th. The 7-member County Council appropriates all funds for county use, adopts county budget, fixes county tax rates, and has exclusive power to borrow money for the County. Councilors serve four-year terms for this part-time position.
Three Democrats and one Republican will vie for seats in Districts 1-4. Only one incumbent, Peter Iversen, will face a candidate from the Republican party in the race for his seat in District 1. The other candidates are running unopposed in the following districts. |

Winner: Jennifer Crossley (D)

- Jennifer Crossley currently serves as the Monroe County Councilor for District 4. She made history with her appointment to the council in December 2021 as she is the first Black person to serve on the County Council. Prior to this, she served as chair for the Monroe County Democratic Party (January 2019 through December 2021) and also made history as the first Black person to serve in this role. Jennifer now serves as the VP of Legislative Action for Monroe County NOW. Previously, she was on the Steering Committee on the Democratic Women’s Caucus in 2018. She also served as the Membership Chair and Vice President of the Monroe County NOW (National Organization for Women) chapter in 2017.

Winner: Peter Iversen (D)

- Peter is a local leader who serves as the current Monroe County Councilman representing the first district. With his wife of 13 years, he is raising two children in Monroe County. He obtained his Masters of Public Affairs from the Indiana University O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Peter has represented the First District for two years with a focus on creating a community that is resilient to Climate Change; advances equity, diversity, and inclusion; and is healthy.
