Upon being nominated by Chick-fil-A Bloomington East’s franchise owner, Wes Key, Wheeler Mission—Bloomington submitted a grant application to be considered for Chick-fil-A’s annual True Inspiration Award program earlier in 2024. As part of the Midwest region, comprised of eleven states, Wheeler Mission—Bloomington’s grant application was one of literally thousands considered for this coveted award, and was ultimately chosen as one of five Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Award finalists, thus receiving a $30,000 grant award for Wheeler Mission’s services and programs in Bloomington, Indiana. From Brent Fielder, Vice President of Global Impact at Chick-fil-A, "Chick-fil-A is honored to invest in the impactful work of these incredible organizations that are creating meaningful change in their local communities," said Brent Fielder, Vice President of Global Impact for Chick-fil-A, Inc. "From fighting hunger and providing educational opportunities to fostering environmental stewardship, these nonprofits are shining examples of what it means to care for others and have a positive influence on the world. We are inspired by their work and grateful to partner with them on this journey." Wheeler Mission—Bloomington will be able to appropriate Chick-fil-A’s True Inspiration Award toward renovating its commercial kitchen where nearly 62,000 meals were prepared and served this past year to individuals experiencing homelessness and the general public.
Dana Jones, Wheeler Mission—Bloomington’s Director of Community Engagement and Services states, “Wheeler Mission—Bloomington's doors are open every day of the year providing meals, shelter, clothing, warm showers, laundry, life skills, case management, and life transformative residential programming in order that our guests experiencing homelessness may not only obtain basic necessities but also have the opportunity to achieve personal success. We are truly grateful to our friends at Chick-fil-A whose generous gift provided through the True Inspiration award will enable us to continue the important work of caring for our friends and neighbors experiencing homelessness in South-Central Indiana. Wheeler Mission—Bloomington’s team will celebrate alongside Chick-fil-A Bloomington East’s staff for an official check presentation this morning (Friday, January 17) at Chick-fil-A’s Bloomington restaurant, located at 3020 E.
