Weekday Farmers' Market opens June 2 as a summer hub for food, music, and community

The weekday edition of the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market returns to Hopewell Commons at 630 S. Morton St. June 2 from 4 until 7 p.m., creating a weekly gathering space where neighbors can shop local, share a meal, enjoy live music, and connect with the people who grow and prepare their food.

Tuesday Market is one of the regular public uses planned for Hopewell Commons as the City continues redevelopment work in the Hopewell neighborhood. The Hopewell Commons space for the Tuesday Market is enhanced with a stage for live music, easy pedestrian and bicycle access via the B-Line Trail, pickleball courts and ping pong tables, and ample space and seating for neighborhood gatherings. More about Hopewell Commons.

Hopewell South, the first housing phase of the larger redevelopment project, is also moving forward. Following unanimous approval from the City of Bloomington Plan Commission and Common Council, the first 98 homes of the redevelopment are advancing, with groundbreaking expected in the coming months. The Kohr Building, a former hospital building being converted by the City and Bloomington Housing Authority into 38 income-restricted rental homes, is expected to open this summer.
Throughout the summer, Tuesday Market at Hopewell Commons features local farm vendors offering fresh produce, meat, eggs, flowers, baked goods, and other locally grown and made products, alongside prepared food vendors serving ready-to-eat meals made with local ingredients. Admission is free. Directions to and more information about Tuesday Market.

The Tuesday Market makes fresh, local food more accessible to the community by continuing to double Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. For every $3 in SNAP benefits, shoppers receive $6 in Market Bucks. Market Bucks can be used like cash to purchase SNAP-eligible products from farm vendors throughout the Market. Double Market Bucks and how to redeem SNAP benefits.

In addition to shopping, visitors can relax and enjoy live local music during Tuesday Tunes at Hopewell Commons, part of the summer Performing Arts Series of free music in City parks. Don't Call Me Betty performs retro rock 'n roll from 5 until 6:30 p.m. June 2. Summer schedule for Tuesday Tunes.

Located along the B-Line Trail next to the Seminary Square Kroger, the Tuesday Market is easily accessible by foot, bike, and public transit. Bike racks are available on both sides of Hopewell Commons. Bloomington Transit route maps and schedules.
