To close out the summer and help usher in our 2025/2026 season at Constellation Stage & Screen, the Waldron Art Galleries hosts new shows in each of our three galleries. In the Spotlight Gallery, Isabella Arp presents her first solo show, Quarantine the Past: A Retrospective of Post-Punk, Britpop, & Beyond. Arp relies on her strength with oil paints and graphite to expose the rift between the polished, mass produced imagery of popular media and the raw realities of the musicians, featured in her work, beyond the stage. She also aims to reframe the viewers’ experiences with each musician she captures by giving more physical space to those who are lesser known, all while evoking the sort of nostalgic visual diary represented on the bedroom walls of music-obsessed teens. Invisible: Art in All Forms, a group show including the work of four artists, Alex Quintanila, Boneger, Jingyin Che, and Alberto Sanchez, opens in the Educational Gallery. This show, curated in tandem by Peilin (Judy) Qiao, Pious Amissah, and Madison Gardner, combines painting, jewelry, graphic design, photography, and textiles from an equally diverse group of artists in order to explore practices deeply-rooted in cultural heritage and lived experience. Centered on the idea of an invisible root, the collection invites people into the universally resonant yet personal network of memories, heritage, and experiences that artists’ rely on as a means to shape their artistic languages. Ben Pines’ new show, Present, opens in the Rosemary P. Miller Gallery. Pines new body of work combines with some of his atmospheric paintings to transform the act of looking into an experience of mindfulness. These images speak as much to the inner experience as the outward form. Pines includes a solitary subject in many of his new works in order to encourage an imaginative dialogue between the viewer and the person painted. Also on view will be several of Pines’ atmospheric paintings and some pieces set in Ireland, based on the artist’s travels. On Saturday, September 13, Ben will speak about his work in an artist talk open to the public. Doors will open 4:30pm, with the talk to begin at 5:00pm.
These shows will open during September’s First Friday Gallery Walk, on September 5 from 5:00-8:00pm.
