Earth Eats: Eats Wild airs Saturday, March 29 at 7 a.m. on WFIUWFIU’s weekly podcast and radio show about food and farming—is launching a special nine-part series dedicated to foraging this month. “Eats Wild” will share stories to inspire listeners to notice their surroundings, pay attention to subtle seasonal changes, and engage in memorable experiences with the natural world. The “Eats Wild” series features Earth Eats host and producer Kayte Young in conversation with knowledgeable foragers. She joins wild food experts out in the field and in kitchen sessions to learn how to prepare wild foods. Young also encourages listeners to go foraging themselves and try the recipes at home.
“The embodied learning that happens when we search for plants and mushrooms, when we learn to notice the characteristics that allow us to identify them, and when we prepare them and taste them—that kind of learning stays with us and maybe changes us,” said Young. The first episode in the series premieres Saturday, March 29 at 7 a.m. and Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m. on WFIU and will also be available as a podcast. The episode features an interview about spring foraging with Monique Philpot, founder of Soulcraft Bloomington, Indiana’s first forest and folk school. The episode also follows Philpot’s wild edibles classes at Soulcraft and Indiana University. Two more spring foraging episodes will be released on April 5 and 12. The series will return on June 21, 28, and July 5 for three episodes on summer foraging and September 13, 20, and 27 for the final three episodes on fall foraging.
