In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, IU Health is bringing its Mobile Lung Screening Unit to City Church of Bloomington on Saturday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — offering quick, low-dose CT scans that can detect lung cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. With Indiana ranking among the highest in smoking rates and radon exposure, this initiative is more than just high-tech care on wheels—it’s a deeply personal public health effort. Firefighters, factory workers, and retired smokers are among those now being screened. The unit is on track to complete around 2,000 scans this year. This event provides a critical opportunity for eligible Hoosiers — particularly those who smoke or have smoked in the past — to access life-saving screenings close to home. IU Health’s mobile unit travels statewide to bridge the gap in care for communities that may not have easy access to advanced imaging. The program has already identified dozens of early-stage cancers since launching, helping patients start treatment sooner and improving outcomes. We’d love to have your outlet help spread the word about this local opportunity for preventative care and awareness. Happy to connect you with a lung cancer specialist and/or the unit’s program manager.
