Grants Available for Community Pedestrian and Bicycle Initiatives

The 2026 application cycle for the Local-Motion Grant Program is now open with an application deadline of Friday, October 9. This program is designed to promote walking, rolling, and biking throughout Bloomington. The program funds initiatives that engage the community in and promote education related to sustainable transportation. It is run in partnership with the Transportation Commission.

Past winning projects include:

• Rollator lending program at Monroe County Public Library
• New bike repair equipment for the Bloomington Community Bike Project
• A bike maintenance station for Summit Hill Community Land Trust 
• A kid’s bike club at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington

​Eligible organizations may submit one project application per annual cycle, with a maximum grant award of $2,400 per project. Up to $7,500 may be awarded across all selected applicants. Applications are welcomed from nonprofit organizations, neighborhood associations and local businesses that propose creative and impactful projects supporting active transportation. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the program guidelines and submit their proposals using the online application.
