DSI Celebrates Disability Awareness Month with a Month of Inclusion, Inspiration, and Impact

March is Disability Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the abilities of all individuals and promote a more inclusive world. This national observance is about breaking down barriers, amplifying the voices of individuals with disabilities, and fostering communities where everyone can thrive. Across the country, organizations, advocates, and allies come together to spread awareness, share success stories, and drive meaningful change.

At Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI), inclusion is not just a concept but a fundamental mission. For over 50 years, the organization has been committed to eliminating barriers that restrict individuals with disabilities from full participation in their communities. Through employment support, residential assistance, therapy services, day programs, life skills training, and community engagement programs, DSI empowers people to achieve self-direction, inclusion, personal fulfillment, and productivity in all areas of life.

This March, DSI is celebrating Disability Awareness Month with an exciting lineup of events and initiatives designed to engage, educate, and inspire. The achievements of individuals with disabilities will be recognized, along with efforts to promote the importance of inclusion.

Bloomington Regional Events & Activities

• Community Tour - March 12, 1:30 PM (Bloomington Office) A firsthand look at how DSI supports individuals with disabilities will be available during the Bloomington community tour. The day program activities will be showcased, and the Director of Employment Services will discuss how employment support services assist individuals in securing meaningful job opportunities. Community members and potential partners are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and explore collaboration opportunities. To participate, please email Haoxi Wang at [email protected] for RSVP. • Dine & Donate Events - Supporting DSI's Client Emergency Fund
  • Pizza Hut Dine & Donate - March 4, 2025 Orders from any Pizza Hut location in town using the fundraiser code NM will contribute a portion of the purchase to DSI’s Client Emergency Fund. Whether ordering online, by phone, or in-store, mentioning the code will direct part of the proceeds to assist individuals with disabilities in times of need.
  • Chipotle Dine & Donate - March 19, 2025 | 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM Another opportunity to support the cause will be available at Chipotle (420 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN). Using the fundraiser code R6R9Q3A at checkout or mentioning the fundraiser in person will ensure that a portion of all qualifying sales is donated to DSI's Client Emergency Fund.

The Client Emergency Fund provides urgent financial assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities facing unexpected hardships. This fund helps cover essential needs such as housing and utility bills, medical expenses, transportation costs, and essential daily living items like winter coats and beds when no other funding sources are available. Every meal purchased during these events directly contributes to ensuring access to emergency resources.
31 Days of Ability Social Media Campaign Throughout March, daily social media posts will highlight the achievements, resilience, and talents of individuals supported by DSI. These stories will showcase the positive impact of inclusion and community engagement.
