Tues, May 20 at 6:00pm at IU Cinema![]() Constellation Stage & Screen is excited to host a Community Preview Screening of its short film Rock, Paper, Destiny, directed by Tess Paras and written by Timothy Michael Cooper, on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:00pm the IU Cinema (1213 E 7th St). Constellation’s annual project, Project Constellation, pairs professional filmmakers with Bloomington area students, actors, and crew to create a high-level short film that’s screened in Bloomington and submitted to film festivals nationwide. Formerly a statewide competition, Constellation was thrilled to bring this educational opportunity home to Bloomington. This will be Constellation’s first large-scale film project, and the magic all happened right here in town! Their Future Is In Her Hands.
When Westside High faces the upcoming high-stakes Rock Paper Scissors Championship—and critical program cuts if they lose—it’s up to Zelda, an impossibly shy watergirl, to save their entire school…if she can somehow conquer her own self-doubt first. Many months ago, Constellation’s Artistic Director Chad Rabinovitz and filmmaker Emelie Flower were discussing the hilarity in taking a silly little game (like Rock, Paper, Scissors) incredibly seriously. When Rabinovitz reached out to Timothy Michael Cooper, a NY-based award-winning filmmaker, comedy writer, and script consultant, Rock, Paper, Destiny was born. Director Tess Paras (indie film, branded content, shorts for CBS Comedy Showcase, Roku, and Powderkeg) brought the script to life with a talented team of LA-based industry professionals and Bloomington locals. The film was shot over four days in February and at local Bloomington locations, including Bloomington North High School. An incredible 46 local actors, 185 extras, and 28 crew members gave their time and talent to bring Rock, Paper, Destiny to life. The principal cast features Bloomington North student Emma Kehr and IU senior Josh Ingle Jr., alongside Rebekka Johnson (GLOW, The Baby-Sitters Club, Sex Lives Of College Girls), Jason Rogel (CROSS, Raven’s Home, The Mistle-Tones), and Greg Santos (CBS Showcase 2024, The Baxters, Somewhere in Between). The film was shot in various locations across South Central Indiana, including Bloomington North High School and Edgewood High School. After the Community Screening, Rock, Paper, Destiny will be heading to the film festival circuit! An official premiere will be held at one of the film festivals at a later date. Follow @rockpaperdestiny on Instagram and TikTok for updates regarding premieres and festival involvement or contact [email protected] for more information. Tickets are available through IU Cinema (cinema.indiana.edu) for the Community Preview Screening of Rock, Paper, Destiny at the IU Cinema on May 20. Doors open at 5:30pm and the screening event begins at 6:00pm. From getting a picture with the East Side High mascot Fisty to meeting with the local actors in the principal cast, you won’t want to miss this exclusive chance to see Constellation’s Film Department’s largest production yet!
