The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) has published its latest annual drinking water quality report, providing information about local drinking water quality and data from tests conducted during 2024.

Bloomington’s drinking water met all federal standards for safe drinking water in 2024. The report details 13 contaminants detected in Bloomington's drinking water during 2024, including disinfectant byproducts (DBPs) and total organic carbon. More than 70 additional potential contaminants were tested for and not detected, and are thus not listed in the report.

“Clean, safe drinking water is something we should never take for granted,” said Mayor Kerry Thomson. “I’m proud of the work CBU does every day to protect public health, care for our environment, and serve our community. I encourage residents to take a look at this year’s water report—it’s a great snapshot of how we’re doing and why it matters.”

As part of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires community water systems to deliver a Consumer Confidence Report, also known as an annual drinking water quality report, to their customers.

In addition to the annual report, the City provides data about drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater at its Open Data Portal. For drinking water, datasets include current and historic information about lead and copper, organic matter, and DBPs. In addition, the data portal also includes information about the EPA’s Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule, in which CBU found no detectable PFAS contaminants. Additional datasets include those tracking plant energy consumption and sanitary sewer overflows, among other information.

For questions about the annual drinking water quality report or to request a paper copy, contact CBU’s Water Quality team at [email protected] or 812-349-3655.
