City of Bloomington Utilities Announces S Sare Road Closure Starting November 12 for Stormwater Drainage Improvement Project

11/6/2024

The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) will soon begin a project to improve stormwater drainage along a section of S Sare Road, aiming to enhance infrastructure resilience and road safety. This critical project will involve replacing a culvert that is in poor condition under S Sare Road, located between E Winston Street and S McCartney Lane. Once the replacement is complete, the City’s Street Department will repave the affected section of the road to ensure safe, long-term use for Bloomington residents.

Work on the S Sare Road stormwater improvement project is scheduled to start on November 12, 2024, and is expected to be completed within approximately two weeks, weather permitting. It is essential to complete this work before local asphalt manufacturing facilities close for the winter season, as this will ensure the road is fully restored and protected from seasonal wear.

To expedite the work and minimize disruptions, CBU and City Street crews will operate with extended hours throughout the project’s duration.
Residents and commuters are advised to use designated detour routes, which will be marked by signage along the affected area.

“This improvement will help ensure more reliable stormwater management and maintain road integrity over time,” says Caden Swanson, the engineer at CBU managing the project. “While the construction period will be temporarily disruptive, the City appreciates residents’ patience as we work to implement these essential, long-lasting enhancements to the community’s infrastructure.”

For more information about the project or to discuss specific concerns, residents can contact Swanson at 812-361-4813 or via email at [email protected].

For immediate concerns during active construction, please contact the City’s 24-hour hotline at 812-339-1444.
