City of Bloomington Launches E-Bike Voucher Program to Expand Sustainable Transportation

2/7/2025

The City of Bloomington's Pilot e-Bike Voucher Program provides point-of-purchase e-bike vouchers for of up to $2,000 for qualified low-income residents that can be used towards the purchase of an e-bike at the following local bike shops; Bicycle Garage, Bloomington Bicycles, and Revolution Bike and Bean.  In order to qualify for an e-bike voucher, qualified low-income residents must first register for Go Bloomington and Zero In Bloomington, as well as complete a program application.

Go Bloomington is the City's Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Program that promotes sustainable mobility options such as walking, biking, public bus transit, shared rides, carpooling, and vanpooling.  Go Bloomington's mission is to reduce the number of Single Occupant Vehicles (SOV) in our community. Reducing SOV's will decrease carbon emissions, reduce traffic congestion and improve parking availability.  Register for gobloomington.org to learn more.
Zero In Bloomington is the City's climate action platform that provides Bloomington residents with local, customized recommendations to reduce household carbon emissions.  By creating a profile, the site suggests high impact emissions reduction actions based on household characteristics, including insights about energy usage compared to an average Bloomington household and tracks individual progress on the sites dashboard.  Register for zeroinbloomington.com to learn more.

Bloomington's e-bike voucher program helps support the City's goal to reduce qualified low-income residents' reliance on single occupancy vehicles in the community, as we strive to decrease on-road vehicle miles traveled (VMT) by 8% of 2018 values. By shifting to using e-bikes rather than vehicles, qualified low-income residents can help reduce Bloomington's greenhouse gas emissions from combustion and tailpipe emissions.
