Event: Purple Rain (film) Date/Time: Friday, September 6, 2024 @ 7:00 PM Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408 Description: Let’s go crazy and party like it’s 1999! 40 years ago - In 1984 - Prince, with his band, The Revolution, released an album and film that would become a touchstone of 1980’s pop culture. The romantic rock musical drama contains several concert sequences and timeless hits like “Let’s Go Crazy," “When Doves Cry," “I Would Die 4 U" and the title track “Purple Rain”. It’s the story of a young man with a talent for music who has begun a career with much promise. He meets an aspiring singer, Apollonia, and finds that talent alone isn't all that he needs. A complicated tale of his repeating his father's self destructive behavior, losing Apollonia to another singer, and his coming to grips with his own connection to other people ensues. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. Publications and critics have regarded Purple Rain as one of the greatest musical films. In 2019, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Rated R for sexuality, profanity and some violence. Purchase tickets here: https://buskirkchumley.org/event/purple_rain/
