Event: Lotus Opening Concert
Date/Time: Thursday, October 3, 2024 @ 7:00pm
Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408

Description: Lotus is excited to start the festival out with a bang! Our opener, Coolmule, is the latest and greatest Midwest old-time band to emerge, like Brood X cicada - inevitable, unstoppable, often buzzing in the key of G. They will make the cloggers clog, the dancers go berserk, and the newly wedded couple cry. They are HOT and as cool, as, well, a mule.

Our featured band is Telmary & HabanaSana. Telmary is a Cuban rapper, musician, and spoken-word artist. Her music effectively brings together two worlds that seemed disparate, combining music genres, tearing down cultural barriers, and connecting people of different backgrounds and languages. With a powerhouse band to back her up, Telmary will rock the BCT!

Event: Lotus Closing Concert
Date/Time: Sunday, October 6, 2024 @ 3:00pm
Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408

Description: THE SUNDAY CLOSING CONCERT TICKET COMES WITH A 2024 LOTUS PIN.

Our closing concert begins with this year’s Lotus Dickey Artists' Ashlee Watkins & Andrew Small. They are award-winning singers, songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists with a soul-stirring sound that hearkens back to old-time radio broadcasts of the 30s and 40s.

Our second performer, Luciane Dom, is a singer and songwriter, part of a new generation of contemporary artists from Rio de Janeiro. She brings poetry to themes of Black diaspora, feminism, empowerment, and other social reflections that impact the construction of her emotions. Her musical sound is influenced by Afrobeats, urban jazz, reggae, and Ijexá. Her music is sensual, danceable, and a great way to close out the festival.

2024 Lotus Pin will be available for pick up in the lobby of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater when doors open for the event. Must have your Sunday ticket in hand to receive the pin and to gain entry to the show.

Event: ENO
Date/Time: Tuesday, October 8, 2024 @ 7:00pm
Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408

Description: Maverick recording artist Brian Eno co-founded Roxy Music, produced breakthrough albums for David Bowie, Talking Heads, Devo, and U2, and pioneered innovative work in ambient music.

A renowned explorer of technology and “oblique strategies,” he is an unlikely subject for a conventional documentary; but in this first-of-its-kind portrait, Gary Hustwit (HELVETICA, RAMS) applies Eno’s own concept of “generative” art: the filmmaker’s proprietary technology, developed with digital artist Brendan Dawes, produces a different movie every time it’s screened, presenting variations in sequence, music, and scenes (including some with such collaborators as Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, David Bowie, U2, and others).

This is a once-in-a-lifetime screening. ENO offers millions of possible variations and ushers in a groundbreaking approach to storytelling. The result is a viewing experience that resonates with Eno’s own artistic practice, his use of technology to compose music, and the mercurial essence of creativity as his endless pursuit. Defying the hagiographic impulses of the music doc genre, ENO draws from original interviews and the artist’s own staggering archive of never-before-seen footage and unreleased music. This showing will include a pre-recorded Q&A with the Director/Producer Gary Hustwit.

Event: Hiss Golden Messenger
Date/Time: Wednesday, October 9, 2024 @ 7:00pm
Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408

Description: Don’t miss a special solo set from Hiss Golden Messenger, performing the 2010 record “Bad Debt” in its entirety, along with other favorites. Coming to Buskirk Chumley Theater on October 9th. Tickets on sale now.

In 2010, M.C. Taylor—leader, songwriter and singer of Hiss Golden Messenger—sat down at his kitchen table and started writing and recording the songs that would eventually become his beloved album Bad Debt. At the time, the songwriter was living in a drafty cedar cabin in the woods outside of Pittsboro, North Carolina with his wife and three-month old son Elijah, having recently moved across the country from California. Taylor was, for all intents and purposes, out of the music game.

Event: Popcorn

Venue: Buskirk-Chumley Theater 114 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408

Description: Join Cicada Cinema and the BCT in a collaboration to kick off the Halloween Vibes of October with this campy horror flick!

Popcorn (1991) follows a group of college students holding a film festival in an old theater (similar to the 102 year-old Buskirk-Chumley!?!).

Among the movies being shown during the festival is Possessed, an experimental film made by the deranged filmmaker Lanyard Gates, who killed many people from the audience during its initial showing. And now – a master of disguise is killing again!

Written by Mitchell Smith and Alan Ormsby
Directed by Mark Herrier and Alan Ormsby
Starring: Jill Schoelen, Tom Villard, and Dee Wallace
