Bloomington and Safer Nightlife Experiences: LineLeap Donation Funds Expanded SAFE Bar Training

3/12/2025

Bloomington’s nightlife is set to become significantly safer, as part of a nationwide initiative, thanks to a $173,168 donation from LineLeap to the SAFE Bar Network, with funds being deployed for training nationwide. While this substantial funding, generated from their national events, will bolster safety training across the country, Bloomington venues will directly benefit, building on successful programs already established. Furthermore, LineLeap is hosting an upcoming bar crawl in Bloomington to further support the SAFE Bar Network.

LineLeap, a leading mobile app connecting customers to top nightlife venues, demonstrated its commitment to community safety by raising the funds through the sale of bar crawl t-shirts, with $1 donated per shirt. While the SAFE Bar Network has laid a foundation by training 227 venues nationwide, including in Indiana, this contribution will significantly enhance the nightlife landscape by facilitating the training of many more local venues and expanding to additional communities nationwide.
IMPACT AND SUCCESS STORIES
The donation has already enabled the SAFE Bar Network to:
  • Train 99 alcohol-serving venues to increase safety.
  • Educate nearly 3,760 employees to prevent overconsumption and other harm.
  • Teach venue teams valuable active bystander and de-escalation skills.

“By having the conversations with the SAFE Bar Network we have seen such a positive impact on our culture with staff and customers. We’ve had positive feedback from our community too,” said Brian Miller at Fieldhouse | Willie’s.

Key training results from venues nationwide demonstrate remarkable effectiveness:
  • 85% of staff can recognize when someone is crossing a boundary.
  • 98% of staff know at least one skill that they will use to prevent harm.
  • 99% of staff identified ways to create a workplace culture focused on increasing safety.

“A guest let us know that two guys were trying to get a woman to go home with them. We separated everyone to get a better idea of what was going on. She told us that she was uncomfortable. So, we asked the two guys to leave and helped the woman find her friends and a safe ride home,” shared Myles Robinson at Kilroy’s Sports.

LOOKING FORWARD: ENHANCED SAFETY IN BLOOMINGTON
In 2025, LineLeap and SAFE Bar Network aim to:
  • Train 110 additional alcohol-serving venues nationwide to prevent overconsumption and other harm, with a goal of expanding reach within the downtown and campus areas of Bloomington, increasing the number of Indiana venues that are certified by the SAFE Bar Network.
  • Educate over 4,180 of their employees on the skills to give a safe night out.

Haleigh Harrold, Executive Director of the SAFE Bar Network, emphasized, “The training goes beyond individual skills, focusing on creating ongoing conversations about noticing and interrupting concerning behavior.”

JOIN THE FUN: LINELEAP'S UPCOMING BLOOMINGTON BAR CRAWL
LineLeap’s Leprechaun Bar Crawl is happening in Bloomington on March 13, with $1 of the proceeds from each t-shirt sold directly benefiting the SAFE Bar Network, supporting their ongoing efforts to enhance nightlife safety in Indiana and beyond. “The Leprechaun Crawl is an event we look forward to every year as a company. Being able to do it in Bloomington, one of the best college towns in America with amazing bars, is always so much fun for everyone involved. These bar crawls are ‘yearbook moments’ for college students and events that we hope they look back on as some of the most fun days of their college experience. To be able to support the SAFE Bar Network with proceeds from shirt sales makes it all the more inspiring of an event. LineLeap's motto is ‘Fun, Faster.’ But part of a ‘fun’ night is a ‘safe’ night, and partnering with the SAFE Bar Network brings that to life.” - Max Schauff, LineLeap Co-Founder. This bar crawl is a great opportunity to enjoy Bloomington’s vibrant nightlife while contributing to a safer community.

EMPOWER YOUR BLOOMINGTON VENUE WITH SAFE BAR TRAINING
The SAFE Bar Network invites bars and restaurants in Bloomington to take advantage of this valuable, free training opportunity. Participating venues will benefit from increased employee retention, potential cost savings on hospitality insurance, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
