Nationwide, only 140 emergency communication centers are CALEA accredited and the CEDC is one of only two communications centers in Indiana to accomplish this achievement. This accreditation ensures that the Dispatch Center meets an established set of professional standards, improves emergency response times and outcomes while demonstrating a commitment to continual improvement, aligns with best practices, and fosters public confidence through integrity and professionalism in 911 services. Bloomington has been named the state’s latest Clean Community by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). Established by IDEM in the early 2000s, the Clean Community Program (previously called the Clean Community Challenge) recognizes Indiana counties, cities, and towns that take a proactive, positive approach toward ensuring a better quality of life for all Hoosiers and a healthy economy by working to address community and social issues through sustainable environmental and wellness projects.
Bloomington Stormwater Education Specialist Kriste Lindberg represented the City of Bloomington and accepted Clean Community Program signs and a commemorative flag from IDEM during the 2024 Clean Community Program Annual Meeting in October. “We are thrilled to welcome Bloomington to the Clean Community Program,” said IDEM Commissioner Brian Rockensuess. “Being a ‘Clean Community’ sends a message to residents and visitors that their city values environmental stewardship. I congratulate Bloomington on their work in earning this recognition.” CDFI Friendly Bloomington (CFB), a regional nonprofit organization working to increase community development finance institution investment in 13 Indiana counties, was recently awarded a $300,000 Technical Assistance (TA) grant from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund.
On November 21, award announcements were made, benefitting 246 organizations across the United States with $72.6 million in capacity-building grant funds to provide financial products and services to low-income and underserved communities across the country. This is the second award for CFB, which also received a $125,000 grant in 2021. “This investment from the U.S. Treasury’s CDFI Fund is a recognition of the continued impact CFB is having in bringing needed investment to the Indiana Uplands region,” said CFB Board President Tina Peterson. “With these resources, CFB is positioned to increase outreach to communities and organizations across the region and to share how community development financial institutions (CDFIs) can help expand opportunities for affordable housing, small business, and access to important services, such as childcare.” |
