Today, United Way of South Central Indiana joins United Way Worldwide (UWW) to announce a refreshed brand to reflect the organization’s reach and impact in communities as one of the world’s largest and oldest privately funded charities that helps over 48 million people annually, including nearly one in three people in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, and Owen counties.
“The global brand refresh is a significant milestone in our organization’s 137-year history and represents our commitment to evolve and innovate in order to meet the changing needs of our communities worldwide” said Angela F. Williams, president and CEO of UWW. “It signifies our organization's longstanding journey, while also embodying our transformative approach to remain relevant, sustainable, impactful now and in the future.” United Way’s global brand refresh effort comes at a time when data reveal a decline in the proportion of Americans who volunteer or contribute to nonprofit organizations. Through this renewed strategy, United Way aims to spur greater engagement and action among the public and reinforce what United Way stands for, how it’s different, and why audiences should be engaged with the work of United Way. Underpinning the revitalized brand are four impact areas – youth opportunity, healthy community, financial security, and community resiliency – that highlight United Way's expertise and unwavering commitment. Landscaping, "BLOOMINGTON" letters to be installed in late October![]() The Bicentennial Gateway at Miller-Showers Park, 101 W. 17th St., is nearing completion, with the gateway, surrounding landscaping, sidewalks, and road work scheduled to be finished by mid-November. The Bicentennial Gateway is a wall approximately 52' long and 10' high, composed of stacked limestone blocks and the word "Bloomington" in backlit letters mounted to the limestone. The powder-coated aluminum letters are being fabricated by bo-mar Industries in Indianapolis, and are slated for installation when crushed limestone surfacing and park benches are in place around the gateway. The final landscaping work, including tree planting, will begin the last week in October. Plans call for more than 20 trees to be planted in the median around the gateway. Tree species include serviceberry, redbud, yellowwood, black gum, and white oak. The cut-through is scheduled to be re-opened when it is paved, likely after the first week in November. Monroe County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) announces the retirement of Kristin Bishay, its long-time Executive Director, effective October 31st. Kristin has devoted nearly three decades to advocating for abused and neglected children in the community, starting as a CASA volunteer and then rising to the role of Executive Director in 2007.
Throughout her tenure, Kristin has been a tireless champion for children in need. Under her leadership, Monroe County CASA expanded significantly, growing from a small group to a staff of 10 and 75 volunteers, who collectively serve more than 400 children each year. Kristin has guided the organization through numerous challenges—including the opioid crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic—while spearheading programmatic growth, increasing volunteer recruitment, and implementing new initiatives to support the children and families CASA serves. Kristin's dedication to the mission has been unwavering. She has always led with compassion and positivity, reminding staff and volunteers that, despite the difficult nature of their work, they are making a profound impact in the lives of children and families. The Monroe County CASA Board of Directors is pleased to announce Tia Arthur as the next Executive Director of Monroe County CASA.
Tia has already dedicated over 17 years to supporting the well-being of abused and neglected children in Monroe County. She has served CASA in various capacities, including Case Coordinator as well as Program Manager for both the Courthouse Facility Dog Program and the Child Visit Monitor Program. Prior to her work at CASA, Tia was a valued member of the staff at the Youth Services Bureau and the Department of Child Services. She will officially assume her new role on November 1, 2024, following the retirement of long-time Executive Director Kristin Bishay on October 31, 2024. The Board of Directors conducted an extensive search over the summer, with more than 100 applicants considered for the position. Tia stood out not only for her deep knowledge and experience within the organization, but also for her clear vision for the future of CASA. Her unwavering commitment to ensuring every abused and neglected child has a dedicated advocate, and her passion for keeping the best interests of children at the forefront, were key factors in her selection.
