Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County accepting Class of 2026 applications through September 29th8/18/2025 Leadership Bloomington–Monroe County (LBMC) builds a stronger community by identifying a diverse cross-section of local, emerging leaders and preparing them for roles in shaping our future. Each year, professionals who are broadly representative of Bloomington and Monroe County prepare for greater involvement in community life. To date, more than 900 local leaders have graduated from LBMC.
Since 1984, LBMC has offered a seven-month, in-person program now called Leadership Education and Development (LEAD), which is designed to develop a multiplicity of skills in the community and workplace. Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County is accepting the Class of 2026 applications through Monday, September 29th and classes will begin October 29th. Apply here! The Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC), in collaboration with the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA), has announced its 2025 Operations Grant supporting 501(c)3 organizations with arts-centered missions focused on Bloomington-based impact. The BAC has allocated $180,000 for its three 2025 grant cycles. Funds come from the BAC’s annual General and Local Income Tax (LIT) budget lines and the BUEA’s annual budget.
Eligible applicants must be registered as 501(c)3s and have an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less. Applicants may request funding of up to $5,000 or five percent of their annual operating budget. Funds may be used for any of an eligible organization's operational costs, including overhead expenses, staff salaries and programmatic expenses. “The Bloomington Arts Commission is proud to provide funding for our local arts nonprofits, which are key to the vitality of our community,” said Elliot Josephine Leila Reichert, chair of the BAC Grants Committee. “The City of Bloomington continues to grow its commitment to the arts through this opportunity and many more.” Applications are being accepted through 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The City of Bloomington’s Safety Week will run August 18-22 as part of the ongoing Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan—an initiative that seeks to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on city streets and roads to zero by the year 2039.
Safety Week features a series of events designed to gather resident feedback, promote awareness of safety initiatives, and foster community collaboration toward creating safer streets for everyone. Each event includes at least one survey question designed to be one minute or less. The survey questions will vary depending on the location to gather site-specific feedback. Participants are invited to join as many events as they like, as different questions will be asked depending on the location. “We’re excited to talk with our neighbors about how we can make Bloomington an even safer place to navigate, no matter who you are or how you choose to get around,” said Ryan Robling, Planning Services Manager. “Safety Week underscores the City's commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all roadway users—and we want to know which locations still need improvement.”  Join United Way of South Central Indiana at the 3rd Annual Blue Jean Ball for a fun-filled benefit concert raising money and bringing people together. This memorable evening in a historic barn nestled in the rolling countryside features live country music, mouthwatering BBQ, a sundae bar, a silent auction, and a raffle!
