September is Hunger Action Month and Hoosier Hills Food Bank and Feeding America are encouraging one million actions across the country to end hunger. During the month-long campaign, HHFB will be raising awareness and inspiring action in Monroe, Brown, Lawrence, Martin, Orange, and Owen counties. Every action counts whether it’s donating, advocating, volunteering, or spreading the word online.
“We can end hunger in the U.S. when we decide to work together with coordinated action and a shared belief that everyone deserves fresh, nutritious food,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “This year during Hunger Action Month, we are encouraging everyone to take action. Raise your voice. Volunteer. Donate. Our individual actions may seem small, but together they become a powerful movement that can change history.” HHFB CEO Julio Alonso noted that the food bank plans to build a theme of coming together to end hunger around this year’s election cycle. “It’s no secret that there are many things dividing us, especially during a contentious national election. But we believe that fighting hunger is a campaign we can all get behind. Whether you’re red or blue, we’re asking everyone to “Go Orange” in September as a show of unity in the goal of ending hunger.” The City of Bloomington’s Commission on the Status of Black Males (CSBM) is inviting middle school and high school-aged males to attend the fifth annual Black Male Youth Summit on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall, located at 401 N. That starts with ensuring Bloomington is a welcoming community where every resident and visitor feels safe and valued,” said Shatoyia Moss, director of Community and Family Resources. The theme for this year’s Fiesta is “Your Contributions Matter: Shaping the Future Together” or “Tus Contribuciones Importan: Formando el Futuro Juntos.” La Fiesta del Otoño offers educational and informative booths, cultural activities from a variety of Spanish-speaking countries, and opportunities to interact with our community partners. Explore how solar batteries can fortify your home or business against rising energy costs and benefit from new government incentives. The Role of Solar Batteries in Home Energy Systems Solar batteries serve as a critical component in residential energy systems, particularly for homes equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels. They store the energy generated by the solar panels during the day, which can then be used at night or during peak electricity demand periods when energy prices are higher. This not only allows for greater energy independence but also ensures a consistent supply of power during outages or cloudy days, enhancing the overall efficiency and reliability of home energy systems. By integrating solar batteries into your home energy setup, you create a buffer against the volatility of the grid, reducing your reliance on traditional power sources. This can lead to significant savings on electricity bills and contribute to a more sustainable household by maximizing the use of renewable energy. Cost Analysis: Investing in Solar Batteries Investing in solar batteries involves an initial upfront cost that can vary widely depending on the capacity, technology, and brand of the battery. On average, homeowners might expect to pay anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for a solar battery installation, though prices are continually evolving. When considering the cost, it's important to factor in not only the price of the battery itself but also installation fees, potential incentives, and the long-term savings on energy bills. Despite the initial expense, the investment in solar batteries can be financially beneficial in the long run. Reduced electricity costs, increased home value, and potential earnings from selling excess energy back to the grid are factors that can contribute to a favorable return on investment. It's advisable to conduct a detailed cost-benefit analysis, taking into account your specific energy usage patterns, local utility rates, and available incentives.
