Mayor Kerry Thomson invites residents to Traveling Town Hall on Monday, June 2, at University Elementary, 1111 N. Russell Rd. The event will run from 6 to 7 p.m. and will also feature Jane Kupersmith, Director of Economic and Sustainable Development, and Councilmember Hopi Stosberg.
Town Halls allow residents to connect directly with local leaders, ask questions, and learn more about city initiatives. The event will begin with a brief update from Mayor Thomson on current and upcoming projects. Following the update, attendees can submit questions on index cards distributed at the door, which the Mayor, Kupersmith, and Councilmember Stosberg will address. If time permits, the evening will conclude with a live Q&A session for additional questions. Traveling Town Halls are part of the City’s ongoing effort to ensure accessible government and foster open communication between residents and officials. Hosted in a different district every other month, these events provide community members the chance to learn about city services, ask questions, and share feedback on topics that matter to them. Residents of District 3 and any community members with feedback, questions, or interest in how city services are delivered are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be broadcast live on Community Access Television Services (CATS) and available for on-demand viewing at catstv.net.

The City of Bloomington has launched a city and place branding initiative in partnership with CivicBrand, an agency that collaborates with cities, districts, and place-based organizations to develop and implement branding, public engagement, and placemaking strategies. This year-long project will define and communicate Bloomington’s identity, laying the foundation for stronger economic development, talent recruitment and retention, community pride, and citywide storytelling. “We’re not inventing something new; we’re uncovering what’s already here,” said Mayor Kerry Thomson. “Bloomington is at the forefront of transformative efforts, from housing and infrastructure to arts, culture, and innovation—and this branding initiative ties it all together. A strong, authentic brand helps us grow purposefully and invites others to grow with us. When people see their values in our story, they’re more likely to stay, invest, and contribute.” The City of Bloomington is working with Walker Consulting to better understand our community’s parking needs, and we want to hear from you.

Parks, nature offer pathways to wellness for all agesIn recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month this May, Parks and Recreation is highlighting the powerful role that parks, green spaces, and time in nature play in supporting emotional and psychological well-being.
The American Psychiatric Association and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services both report rates of anxiety, depression, and social isolation are rising nationwide. At the same time, numerous studies by the Mental Health Foundation, the Mayo Clinic, and others confirm that spending time in natural settings can enhance mood, improve focus, and reduce depression. "Parks and trails are where connection happens-whether it's with nature, friends, or yourself," said Health and Wellness Coordinator Shelby Drake. "They offer space to slow down, breathe fresh air, move your body, and engage with others in a relaxed, welcoming environment."
