Joint Hypersonics Transition Office announces winners in $600,000 prize challenge

4/11/2024

Joint Hypersonics Transition Office (JHTO), in collaboration with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has announced the winners to the Hyper-AMPD! prize challenge.

49 white papers were submitted in Phase I and Aerojet Rocketdyne, Castelion Corporation, GoHypersonic Incorporated, Northrup Grumman, and Specter Aerospace were invited to participate in Phase II of this challenge. Phase II will focus on building a Feasibility Study on the concept that each group designed during the Phase I White Paper. JHTO is looking for creative and cost-effective solutions that can be developed and tested within 24 months.

Following Phase II, winners will be chosen for both monetary and non-monetary prizes. Up to two winners will be selected. More information about the Hyper-AMPD! prize challenge can be found on their website at Challenge.Gov.
Dr. Sarah Armstrong, Director of JHTO’s Systems Engineering Field Activity at NSWC Crane, is excited to see the continued development of this project.

"The hypersonic community came out in force to support JHTO's first-ever prize challenge, Hyper-AMPD! It is very encouraging to see so many novel ideas for low-cost, rapidly fieldable hypersonic systems. Submissions came from a wide range of idea generators, as well as created new partnerships in response to this challenge. It was incredibly difficult to narrow the selection for Phase II, but I am very excited to see the outcome of the feasibility studies over the coming months,” said Dr. Armstrong.

Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is overjoyed to announce its April event to help local cat and dog owners keep their animals safe and healthy.

On Sunday April 14, 2024, the Crestmont Community Center, 1007 W. N Summit St, Bloomington Indiana 47404, will be hosting a pop-up mobile vaccine clinic. MCHA’s amazing veterinary team of volunteers will be available from 1-3 p.m. with no appointment needed; all are welcome!

Mobile Clinics offer a range of services, including legally mandated rabies vaccines for pets aged 12 weeks (about 3 months) and older. Additionally, clinics provide nail trims, anal gland expressions, microchips, and preventive measures for flea, tick, and heartworm.

Subsidized rates are available to residents experiencing financial hardship. To qualify for these rates, residents should bring valid documentation with them to Mobile Vaccine Clinic. Safety is paramount. Cats must be in carriers, and dogs must be leashed (no retractable leashes). It’s essential for pet owners to understand that pets showing signs of illness or aggression might be turned away.

New in 2024 are CII regional focus areas. In the IU Health South Central Region (SCR), persons living with mental health and substance use disorder can find it difficult to identify and navigate the variety of services beneficial to remain in stable and safe situations. We are seeking place-based projects in the SCR that are focused on providing supportive or wrap-around services for persons with mental health or substance use disorder needs including case management, safe and healthy housing, access to nutrition and financial management training. Stretch Zone offers Employee Appreciation Program

4/9/2024

The Employee Appreciation Program was created with the intention that corporations directly offer preventative services that can enhance, influence, and improve their staff mental health and general physical status.

In most work environments, the continuous repetitive movements, constant lifting, lowering of objects or people, long hours hunched over staring into a computer screen, and other similar work-related responsibilities could create stress, depression, and frustration.

Stretch Zone, assisted stretching facility located in Bloomington, IN, in coordination with any corporation, business, and /or organization in the Monroe, Morgan, and Bartholemew county areas will provide scheduled assisted stretching throughout the year to their employees, staff, and/or workers.

The assisted stretches will be performed by certified stretch practitioners provided by Stretch Zone and each session will be approximately 30 minutes in length. The stretches will be performed at our facility.
