The Bloomington City Council on Wednesday evening approved two five-year $5 million general obligation (G.O.) bonds to invest in important Bloomington infrastructure projects spread across the community.
The bonds are designed to fund several projects including sidewalks, side paths, bike lanes, and trails, as well as ADA ramps and energy savers like LED street lights. The City Council voted to set the priority order for various projects as outlined below. “I want to thank the members of City Council for their support of these bonds and their investment in Bloomington’s future,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “I look forward to working with Council as we undertake a wide range of projects that will make life better for a wide variety of Bloomington residents.”

Established in 2015, this award recognizes an outstanding program promoting the advancement of education regarding stormwater management. CBU began the Residential Stormwater Grants (RSG) program in 2019 with $35,000 available during its first year. This amount has increased annually due to the overwhelming response from the community. People are noticing the effects of climate change – an increase of rainfall intensity and frequency interspersed with times of drought, leading to more drainage concerns such as loss of soil, shifting land, cracking foundations, water infiltration, and mold issues. “This program allows Bloomington residents to become active in mitigating the effects of climate change and working toward sustainability by protecting property and resources within our city,” said Mayor John Hamilton “This award shines a light on the good work of City of Bloomington Utilities and Bloomington residents.” On March 23, the Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees confirmed the appointment of Grier Carson as Director of the Library, effective May 6. She has led every step of the planning process from gathering initial community input to site acquisition and the building’s design. The Branch is scheduled to open in early 2023. Although she’s sad that she won’t be present in an official capacity when the branch opens, Wood said “Planning for a new branch is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that’s a legacy I’m really privileged to be a part of.” The City of Bloomington is excited to announce that the BUEA will be hosting an information session for BUEA Business Owners.
