The Indiana University Asian Culture Center, in partnership with the City of Bloomington, will host Asianfest 2026, an annual celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 East Kirkwood Avenue.
This year’s theme, “Mosaic Traditions: Piecing a Common Ground,” celebrates the shared histories and diverse heritages of AAPI communities within Indiana University and the broader Bloomington community. Through cultural expression, storytelling, and artistic performance, Asianfest invites attendees to reflect, connect, and find peace on common ground. Asianfest 2026 will take place in two parts at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater: Cultural and Informational Tabling – 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees can explore cultural and informational booths representing AAPI communities, student organizations, and community partners. Live Performances and Video Screenings – 7 to 8:30 p.m. The evening staged program will feature live performances and video screenings showcasing AAPI voices, traditions, and artistic expressions. Today, the City of Bloomington and Alluinn Development, LLC completed a land purchase for the construction of a four-story, 170-guestroom boutique hotel at the corner of Rogers and 10th streets in Bloomington’s Trades District.
This step marks a significant milestone in the development of the Trades District—Bloomington’s premier innovation district—and a catalytic private investment in Bloomington’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. "This hotel project demonstrates the private sector's confidence in Bloomington's economic future," said Mayor Kerry Thomson. "The Trades District is becoming a destination for innovation and entrepreneurship, and this investment will provide the meeting space and hospitality capacity our community needs to continue attracting talent, capital, and opportunity to Bloomington." I used to believe that if I was skilled enough, the right clients would just find me.
They didn't. Not because I wasn't good. Because I couldn't tell them what problem I solved. I could direct a commercial, fly a drone, edit a reel, and build a content strategy. But when someone asked "What do you actually do?" I'd freeze—and then unload a list of services that left their eyes glazed over. In my new article, I break down the exact process I used to get clear: how to stop overwhelming potential clients and start attracting the ones who actually need you. It's not about being more talented. It's about being understood. If you've ever felt like your skills deserve more attention than they're getting, this one's for you. Strut to Success was created to give girls a safe space to build confidence, strengthen identity, and develop leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
This past quarter, we officially launched Teen Strut Circle at Bachelor Middle School, where 16 seventh-grade girls participated in a structured leadership cohort focused on identity development, emotional wellness, healthy friendships, and confidence. While this is just the beginning, it represents an important step toward building something sustainable and meaningful for girls in our community. Below you’ll find our Quarter 1 Community Impact Brief, which highlights: • The launch of Teen Strut Circle • Our early program impact • Our plans to expand access to more girls across Monroe County • The development of the future Black Patent Leather Pump Mentorship Program IU Bloomington is hosting our Jobs and Internships Fair on Tuesday, April 7 (1:00–4:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the IMU), bringing together 50+ local employers and IU students seeking internships and full-time roles, especially for the summer.
