On stage March 27 – April 13 at the Constellation PlayhouseStep back in time to 1955, where Elvis was king, the first television sets were put in homes, and poodle skirts were all the rage. Immerse yourself in a community of 1950’s reenactors in Maple & Vine, a compelling and timely drama written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. See it on stage March 27 - April 13 at the Constellation Playhouse (107 W 9th St) in downtown Bloomington.
Maple and Vine follows Katha and Ryu who become allergic to their 21st-century lives. When they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they decide to forsake cell phones and DoorDash for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. But after moving to this compulsively authentic world, Katha and Ryu are surprised by what their new neighbors – and they themselves – are willing to sacrifice for happiness.

The City of Bloomington seeks Bloomington-based artists and artist teams to design nature-themed artwork to be placed along the top borders of six new bus stop shelters to be installed in 2025. All professional artists and artist teams ages 18 and over are invited to submit design proposals.
In 2025, the City will install six new bus stop shelters to protect residents from the sun and rain while waiting for the bus at designated bus stops. This project aims to help our community increase its resilience to climate change, which causes our summers to be hotter and longer and increases extreme weather events. The bus stop shelters will also help promote the use of public transportation, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. The addition of artwork along the top borders of the shelter will add compelling imagery to the shelter locations, celebrate the talent of local artists, and highlight the importance of native nature and wildlife. Selected artists/artist teams will receive an honorarium of $500 for each of the six selected designs. The City of Bloomington will pay for materials, printing, and adhering of the design, and installation of the bus shelters. Design submissions are due by 11:59EST on Friday, March 21. All applications should be submitted via Civiform. The full call for designs is available under the Application Overview. ‘Journey Indiana: Underground’ premieres Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. on WTIUA new documentary special from WTIU Public Television’s travel series Journey Indiana presents a view from below the surface of the Hoosier state that not many will experience in person.

City of Bloomington Invites Artists to Create a Vibrant Design for Community Events Trailer2/19/2025 The City of Bloomington is looking for a creative design to transform a new community event trailer into a vibrant, traveling work of art. The 6’x12’ cargo trailer—available for free to neighborhoods, community groups, and City departments—will bring people together at block parties, pop-up events, and meetings across the city.
The selected design will serve as a highly visible representation of Bloomington’s vibrant community and creative identity. The City seeks a design that is engaging, welcoming, and reflective of Bloomington’s character. As the trailer moves throughout the city, it will not only promote the availability of this community resource but also highlight the artistic talent within Bloomington. All professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older are encouraged to apply. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium for their work, and the City will coordinate the printing and application of the design. “We are excited that this new community resource will also be an opportunity to showcase the work of Bloomington’s talented local artists. The trailer, which we hope to launch late this spring, will contain fun both inside and out, with an inviting, creative exterior design and all the equipment and supplies needed to throw a great community event!” Submit your design proposal online by 11:59EST on Friday, March 28.
